Abstract:
A combined PC laser printer and fax reproduction apparatus where the scanning speed and spot size of the laser beam are controlled to be different for the reproduction of signals received from a computer and for fax signals, and the memory of the apparatus is controlled to have two pages when reproducing fax signals, such that the parameters of operation are optimum for both functions.
Abstract:
An apparatus for producing items in selected configurations and a system and method for controlling the same. More particularly, an apparatus for producing mail pieces and a system and method for controlling it to produce mail pieces in a variety of configurations are disclosed. The apparatus includes a laser printer and folding sealing apparatus controlled by a data processor. The folder sealer apparatus combines sheets printed by the laser printer with pre-printed sheets and envelope forms, which also may be printed by the laser printer or may be windowed envelopes, folds the sheets as necessary and folds and seals the envelope form about the folded sheets to produce a mail piece. A user inputs a configuration for the mail piece which is translated by the data processor into a data structure and transmitted to the controller of the folder sealer apparatus. The controller controls devices comprised in the laser printer and the folder sealer by executing state routines in accordance with the data structure to produce the mail piece in the defined configuration. Concurrently the data processor transmits text from an output file to the laser printer for printing on printed sheets and envelope forms. The data processor also controls the laser printer to print an address for the mail piece either on an envelope form or on a printed sheet in a position where it will be visible through the envelope. Thus the apparatus is controlled to process an output file stored in the data processor into a mail run having a selected configuration. A mechanism and method for opening the side flaps of an envelope form is also disclosed.
Abstract:
A mailing machine comprised of a plurality of modules, each of the modules a particular process function on a delivered envelope. The modules are arranged within a single process station. The comprising modules include a scale module having means for weighing a envelope, a transport module having means for positioning the envelope in the process station and ejecting the envelope from the process station, a meter module having printing means for imprinting an indicia on the envelope, a platen module having means for causing the envelope to contact the printing means of the meter module, and an inking module having means for causing printing ink to be deposited on the printing means of the meter module. The modules operate in a manner functionally independent of any other module and in a manner. A tape module is included having means for positioning a tape for indicia printing between the meter module. A cutter module is further included having means for cutting the tape porting subsequent to indicia printing thereon.
Abstract:
An apparatus for inserting sheets under the bottom of a stack of sheets including a positive air pressure source that provides an air cushion between the bottom sheet in the stack of sheets and the stack tray. The air pressure source has articulated seal means attached thereto that are adapted to increase the efficient use of the air pressure source. Drive belts feed sheets under the stack of sheets in cooperation with a vacuum source that deflects sheets against the belts until they reach a point in their forward movement of coming under the influence of the positive air pressure source and are thereby floated up to the bottom of the stack of sheets.
Abstract:
In a recirculating document handling apparatus for a copier, in which a set of document sheets are sequentially circulated from a stack thereof to the imaging station of the copier and back to the stack, and in which selectable inverting apparatus is provided for inverting or not inverting the document sheets as they are being so circulated and before they are returned to the stack, the latter comprises a large diameter inverting roller adjacent the downstream side of the imaging station, normally rotated in a first direction, and selectably rotated in the reverse direction, and a repositionable wedge-shaped first sheet guide provides in a first position, a document sheet first path from said imaging station around the outside of said inverting roller and towards the stack with the inverting roller driven in the first direction, and said first guide being repositionable to a second position, in coordination with said reverse rotation of said inverting roller in which a document sheet is guided in a second path around the inside of said inverting roller (between the inverting roller means and the imaging station) and then to the outside of the inverting roller, the reverse rotation of the inverting roller being sufficient to rotate the trail edge of a document sheet in this second path past a second guide means adapted to allow the trail edge of the document sheet to flip relative thereto so that upon re-reversal of the inverting roller the document sheet is fed toward the stack trail edge first.
Abstract:
An apparatus which moves documents in a recirculating path from a stack to an imaging station. Successive uppermost document are fed from the stack to the imaging station. After imaging, the documents are returned to the bottom of the stack.
Abstract:
An automatic document handler adapted to receive a stack of documents to be copied for feeding the documents seriatum to the platen of a copy machine and returning the copied documents to the stack. The combination of a vacuum-belt document corrugator/feed assembly and an air knife is provided to assure positive feeding of each document to the platen without misfeeds or multifeeds.
Abstract:
In an apertured vacuum belt document handling system for a copier, with a normal vacuum transport mode for moving the belt with a document thereon over the exposure position, the belt is provided with an unapertured area, preferably larger than the exposure area. This unapertured area is automatically positioned and stopped over the exposure station when the copier is placed in a manual document placement mode of operation.
Abstract:
An imaging system is provided for scanning stationary objects in an object plane and projecting the image onto a moving photoreceptor in a direction opposite the photoreceptor movement. In a preferred embodiment, the scanning illumination elements comprise a dual rate mirror system, a fixed lens and a rotating mirror which reflects the projected image onto a portion of the photoreceptor surface which has been made curved in the exposure zone.
Abstract:
An apparatus in which an endless belt is supported for movement in a recirculating path. A pressurized fluid flows between a support post and the belt to reduce friction therebetween. The post is urged resiliently toward the belt to maintain the belt under substantially uniform tension.
