Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communication are described. Contention procedures may include a shared radio frequency (RF) spectrum region to access resources in another shared RF spectrum region. For example, a wireless device may operate in a synchronous system and identify a set of target resources for a data transmission. The wireless device may contend for the target resources by performing a procedure, such as a listen-before-talk (LBT) procedure, in a first shared RF spectrum region that is smaller than, and overlaps in frequency with, a second shared RF spectrum region that includes the target resources. Resources used for the LBT procedure may be included in a different time period than the target resources, where LBT resources may correspond to target resources in different time periods. The target resources may also include multiple sub-channels, and LBT resources may be mapped to one or more of the sub-channels.

Abstract: At a receiver, errors may occur in estimating phase trajectory based on PT-RS due to a window effect. In order to address the problem of such errors, a transmitter determines at least one location for inserting PT-RS samples into a sequence of a plurality of samples, wherein a first set of the samples comprises a first number of samples at a beginning of the sequence and/or a second number of samples at an end of the sequence, and wherein the at least one location for the PT-RS samples is within a second set of the plurality of samples. The apparatus inserts the PT-RS samples into the sequence based on the determined at least one location and transmits a signal based on the inserted PT-RS samples. A receiver extracts the PT-RS samples and estimates phase errors for data samples in the received transmission based on the extracted PT-RS samples.

Abstract: Aspects of the disclosure relate to improvements in random access procedures within a wireless communication network. To increase the likelihood that a user equipment (UE) will properly decode a random access response message from a base station, the base station may retransmit the random access response message one or more times. The number of retransmissions may be fixed or may be variable depending on whether the base station is able to receive or successfully decode a subsequently transmitted uplink message.

Abstract: Various aspects of the disclosure relate to communicating random access information and uplink control information. In some aspects, a user equipment (UE) or other suitable apparatus transmits physical uplink control channel (PUCCH) information concurrently with random access channel (RACH) information transmitted by another UE or other apparatus. For example, the RACH access information and the PUCCH information may be frequency division multiplexed orthogonal tones. The disclosure relates in some aspects to using downlink-uplink (DL-UL) channel reciprocity to determine symbol and/or tone locations. For example, a base station or other suitable apparatus may initially sweep across different directions in different time slots to transmit signals during a synchronization sub-frame. A UE or other suitable apparatus can then find an appropriate RACH symbol from its best synchronization beam index and transmit PUCCH information in those symbols.

Abstract: A RACH preamble is transmitted from a UE using multiple antenna ports. A UE splits a data stream containing a RACH preamble into multiple streams corresponding to a same number of antenna ports of the UE. The UE multiplexes the copies of the RACH preamble according to a multiplexing scheme that enables a receiving eNB to discern the different channels used to transmit the signal from the different antenna ports. A RACH procedure is further accomplished in two steps instead of four by the UE then splitting a RACH payload to the same number of streams and multiplexing the RACH payload for transmission to the eNB. The eNB receives both transmissions, and may use the RACH preamble as a reference signal, and responds with a combined message with control information, random access response, and contention resolution information.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. A first wireless device may receive a first beam measurement report from a second wireless device, the first beam measurement report indicating a first set of beam measurements for a wireless channel between the first wireless device and the second wireless device. The first wireless device may transmit to the second wireless device a cluster validity metric for at least one beam in the first beam measurement report. The first wireless device may receive from the second wireless device, in response to transmitting the cluster validity metric, a second beam measurement report indicating a second set of beam measurements for the wireless channel. The first wireless device may select a beam for transmitting to the second wireless device based at least in part on the first and second beam measurement reports.

Abstract: Techniques for procedures using request to send/clear to send (RTS/CTS) procedures and multiple timers are described. A RTS/CTS procedure using multiple timers may use a first timer and a second timer. The first timer may be associated with a duration to transmit and receive a request to send (RTS) message and a clear to send (CTS) message. The second timer may be associated with a duration to transmit a data message. A network device may transmit a RTS message to request communication resources to transmit data. If the CTS message is not received prior to the expiration of the first timer, neighboring network devices may determine that the communication resources were not allocated and may attempt to request the newly available resources. If a CTS message is received, the network device may communicate the second timer data to the neighboring network devices in a variety of ways.
