    Abstract: A method of decoding implemented by a video decoder including determining, by the video decoder, whether a resolution of a current picture being decoded is the same as the resolution of reference pictures identified by a reference picture list associated with the current picture; enabling, by the video decoder, bi-direction optical flow (BDOF) for a current block of the current picture when the resolution of the current picture is determined to be the same as the resolution of each of the reference pictures; disabling, by the video decoder, the BDOF for the current block of the current picture when the resolution of the current picture is determined to be different than the resolution of either of the reference pictures; and refining, by the video decoder, motion vectors corresponding to the current block using the BDOF when the BDOF is enabled for the current block.

    Abstract: A video coding mechanism is disclosed. The mechanism includes receiving a bitstream comprising a picture including a sub-picture. A width of the sub-picture in units of coding tree blocks (CTBs) and a height of the sub-picture in units of CTBs are obtained from the bitstream. The coding blocks of the sub-picture are decoded based on the width of the sub-picture and the height of the sub-picture. The coding blocks of the sub-picture are forwarded for display as part of a decoded video sequence.

Another method includes the same receiving and obtaining steps, but determining whether the patch type for the patch is a skip patch type; decoding a reference patch index corresponding to the patch when the patch type is the skip patch type; determining a reference index for the patch based on a reference frame index corresponding to the patch and the reference patch index as decoded when the patch type is the skip patch type; and reconstructing a volumetric representation of the patch.

    Abstract: Apparatuses and methods for intra predicting a block are described. The method of intra predicting a current block can include obtaining a predicted sample value from one or more reference sample values by using an intra prediction mode, obtaining at least one additional reference sample value in accordance with the intra prediction mode, and obtaining a thresholded additional reference sample value based on the additional reference sample value. The method can also include calculating an additional value from the thresholded additional reference sample value, multiplying the predicted sample value by a sample weighting factor, resulting in a weighted predicted sample value, adding the additional value to the weighted predicted sample value, resulting in a non-normalized predicted sample value, and normalizing the non-normalized predicted sample value, resulting in a normalized predicted sample values. The accuracy for the intra prediction is thus increased.
