Abstract: A surgical device comprising: a closure assembly including: (a) a latch unit comprising: (A) a hook latch, having a home position, (B) a forward bias constraint, (C) a rearward bias constraint, and (D) a bias member extending between the forward bias constraint and the rearward bias constraint so that the bias member has a pre-load when the hook latch is in the home position; (b) a movement unit including a bar that is movable relative to the latch unit so that the bar is movable in a prescribed motion into contact with the latch unit to create a locked state; and wherein the bar moves into contact with the hook latch driving the hook latch in a first direction, away relative to the home position, and then the hook latch is moved by the bar in a second direction relative to the home position, and a loading of the bias member is increased from the pre-load when the hook latch is moved in either the first direction away from the home position or the second direction away from the home position.

Abstract: A direct peroral cholangioscopy method comprises inserting an endoscope into a guide sheath, inserting the guide sheath and endoscope into a duodenum, extending a tissue retrieval device through the endoscope into the duodenum, extending an anchor wire into the duodenum, collecting biological matter with the tissue retrieval device, and withdrawing the cholangioscope and tissue retrieval device from the duodenum along the anchor wire. A cholangioscopy system comprises a steerable guide sheath and a cholangioscope comprising a shaft extending to a distal end face for displacement within the steerable guide sheath, a tool lumen extending along the shaft and exiting at the distal end face, an anchor lumen entering the shaft between a proximal end portion and the distal end face and exiting at the distal end face, and an exchange lumen extending from the tool lumen to an exterior of the shaft at the distal end face.

Abstract: An endoscope may include an expandable and collapsible working channel, a flexible endoscope body, and an optical sensor located at a distal tip of the endoscope body. The optical sensor can provide a distal field of view from the distal tip. In the collapsed configuration, the working channel can be collapsed such that a channel wall is in a first position relative to the endoscope body and the working channel defines a first cross-sectional area. In the expanded configuration, the channel wall is displaced relative to the first position and the working channel defines a second cross-sectional area that is larger than the first cross-sectional area.

Abstract: Apparatus and associated methods relate to controlling electrical power of an electrotherapeutic signal that is provided to a biological tissue engaged by an electrosurgical instrument during a medical procedure. Electrical power—a product of a voltage difference across and an electrical current conducted by the engaged biological tissue—is controlled according to a therapeutic schedule. The electrotherapeutic schedule can be reduced or terminated in response to a termination criterion being met. In some examples, the termination criterion is a current characteristic, such as, for example, a decrease in current conducted by the engaged biological tissue. In some examples, the termination criterion is a biological tissue resistance characteristic, such as, for example, an increase in the biological tissue resistance that exceeds a predetermined delta resistance value.

An exemplary method includes directing light from a distal end of an endoscope to a target, optically detecting an amount of the light reflected from the target, transmitting the optically detected amount of light through a laser fiber extending through a working channel of the endoscope, determining, based on the optically detected amount of light, a position of a distal end of the laser fiber relative to the distal end of the endoscope, and generating a control signal to the surgical laser system to adjust laser emission through the laser fiber.
