Abstract:
Systems and methods to monitor and analyze customer premises equipment downtime in a Voice over Internet Protocol service network are disclosed. An example method comprises receiving an indication of an internet protocol (IP) address change, determining whether a network transaction is a failed network transaction associated with the IP address change, and when the network transaction is a failed network transaction associated with the IP address change, storing the failed network transaction to a database entry associated with the IP address change.
Abstract:
A method, system, and computer-readable medium for emulating a converged network are provided. A media gateway receives a call at a first interface of a first network type. The call is processed for distribution on a second network type. The processed call is transmitted to a second interface of a second network type. A service module of the media gateway receives the processed call.
Abstract:
A system that incorporates teachings of the present disclosure may include, for example, a set top box having a controller to select a portion of content servers among a plurality of content servers for delivery of media content to the set top box, where the selection is based on server metrics associated with the plurality of content servers and received by the set top box. Other embodiments are disclosed.
Abstract:
Tools and techniques for transmitting utility usage data. In some cases, the tools receive utility usage data provided by a utility meter and transmit that data for reception by a utility provider. In particular cases, the utility usage data may be received at a network interface device. The network interface device might, in some instances, include a broadband modem, such as a digital subscriber line modem, which can be used to transmit the utility usage data to the utility provider.
Abstract:
A system and method for providing call mobility for a dual-mode phone between a cellular network and a home wireless network for a dual-mode phone having a cellular identity and a home identity, wherein the home identity is active when the dual-mode phone is in communication with the home wireless network. The system comprises a residential gateway to connect the home wireless network to a public network, and a VoIP service provider in communication with a mobile switching center on the cellular network and the public network. After placing or receiving a call, the dual-mode phone sends a signal to the residential gateway to initiate the movement of the call between the cellular network and the home wireless network while the call is ongoing.
Abstract:
A method is described for handling multiple telephone and data calls having different data type or business protocols an originating phone, phone being broadly defined as the originating device whether phone or computer, wherein there is an originating phone and a destination phone with or without monitoring phones connected through a network, whether a telephone or data network by establishing a remote network processor having incoming and outgoing ports controlled by the remote network processor which has the steps of generating a plurality of protocols applicable to the incoming and outgoing ports; storing the protocols in a database; selecting a protocol for the incoming and outgoing ports; accepting a call from the originating phone on the incoming port; determining if the call is to be completed; setting parameters for completing the call based on the protocols; and completing the call.
Abstract:
The present invention describes a system and method for communicating voice and data over a packet-switched network that is adapted to coexist and communicate with a legacy PSTN. The system includes soft switch sites, gateway sites, a data network, a provisioning component, a network event component and a network management component. The soft switch sites manage the gateway sites to request the set-up and tear-down of calls. The gateway sites originate and terminate calls between calling parties and called parties through the data network. The provisioning and network event component collects call events recorded at the soft switch sites. The network management component includes a network operations center (NOC) for centralized network management.
Abstract:
A communication terminal includes a base and a wireless handset connected to the base with a wireless connection. In the communication terminal, an audio communication channel of interactive audiovisual communication or audio communication can be transferred between the base and the wireless handset. The communication terminal performs interactive audiovisual communication or audio communication by IP telephony over an IP network. The base includes a base handset serving as an audio inputting and outputting unit and a camera serving as an image inputting and outputting unit, where both units are used for interactive audiovisual communication. The wireless handset includes a microphone, a speaker, and a receiver, where these components constituting an audio inputting and outputting unit.
Abstract:
A method of enabling charging information generated within a GPRS access network 4 to be associated with charging information generated within an IP Multimedia Core Network Subsystem, IMSS, the charging information relating to a multimedia call facilitated by the IMSS and carried by the GPRS network. The method comprises sending a SIP call identity from the IMSS to the GPRS network and/or a GPRS charging identity from the GPRS network to the IMSS. A received identifier is included in charging information messages generated by one or both of the GPRS network and the IMSS.
Abstract:
A signal processing system which discriminates between voice signals and data signals modulated by a voiceband carrier. The signal processing system includes a voice exchange, a data exchange and a call discriminator. The voice exchange is capable of exchanging voice signals between a switched circuit network and a packet based network. The signal processing system also includes a data exchange capable of exchanging data signals modulated by a voiceband carrier on the switched circuit network with unmodulated data signal packets on the packet based network. The data exchange is performed by demodulating data signals from the switched circuit network for transmission on the packet based network, and modulating data signal packets from the packet based network for transmission on the switched circuit network. The call discriminator is used to selectively enable the voice exchange and data exchange.
