An engine timing plate is disclosed that is generally positioned between a crankshaft surface and a main journal. The engine timing plate is not bolted or otherwise secured to either the crankshaft surface or the main journal. Instead, the timing plate “floats” between the two surfaces. The timing plate includes protruding portion that mates or temporarily associates with a receiving portion disposed on the crankshaft. The timing plate also generally includes a raised surface forming an integrated thrust surface that may engage with, but not necessarily interlock with, one or both of the crankshaft surface and the main journal. Thus, the rotational motion of the crankshaft maintains the relative position of the timing plate with respect to the crankshaft surface and/or the main journal without the use of standard mechanical connectors, such as bolts.

A plasma ignition system includes an ignition plug attached to an engine and having a center electrode, a ground electrode, and a discharge space, a discharge power source circuit, a plasma generation power source circuit, a resistance element between the discharge power source circuit and the center electrode, a rectifying device between the plasma generation power source circuit and the center electrode, and an element receiving portion in a periphery of the center electrode. The resistance element and the rectifying device are placed in the receiving portion.

The latter are processed according to a look-up table (30) to select a data value for an adder (ENGINE SPEED/FUELING_ROC_ADDER). An apparatus and method for determining an engine operation control based engine revolution displacement for a multi-cylinder four-stroke internal combustion engine are disclosed in which a reference crank angle sensor is disposed on an engine crankshaft so as to output a reference signal which corresponds to a predetermined crank angular position with respect to a top dead center of each cylinder whenever the engine has revolved through a set crank angular displacement according to the number of cylinders (720.degree./6=120.degree., in the case of a six-cylinder engine). A unit crank angle sensor is disposed on the engine crankshaft so as to output a unit angle (1.degree. or 2.degree.) of the engine crankshaft revolution, a first counter (C1) is built in a gate array (IC-package or gate arrary IC) so as to count the unit angular signal (POS) upon receipt of the reference signal (REF) and so as to be reset to zero when a count value of the first counter has reached a predetermined count value corresponding to the set crank angular displacement and when the first counter receives the subsequent reference signal.

A flywheel assembly for a small internal combustion engine including a permanent magnet structure secured to the flywheel near the outer periphery thereof and for cooperating with the ignition stator to induce spark creating voltages therein. The permanent magnet structure includes two pole shoes and a permanent magnet captured between shoulder portions of the pole shoes. A non-magnetic spacer plate includes two protuberances and is inserted between the flywheel and the magnet group consisting of the pole shoes and the permanent magnet. The protuberances cooperate with outer peripheral surfaces of the pole shoes. The magnet group is held accurately and rigidly in position by axially compressing a pair of rivets which pass through the flywheel, the plate and the magnet group, whereby the rivets are radially expanded to tightly fill the respective apertures through which they pass. The protuberances on the plate prevent the pole shoes from pivoting when the pole shoe outer surfaces are machined. The magnets are prevented from radial movement with respect to the axis of the flywheel by the recessed portions of the pole shoes.

In an ignition distributor of a contactless controlled coil ignition system the stationary elements (16-21) of a Hall transducer are undetachably integrated in the distributor casing (10,30) or in a carrier plate (40). A plug connector casing (25,35) consisting of insulating material and providing with connector prongs (24) is spaced radially from the distributor casing (10,30) or from the carrier plate (40). The integration of the stationary elements of the Hall transducer and of the plug connector casing makes possible a construction of the ignition distributor that is compact and favorable for manufacturing technology.

An internal combustion engine with M cylinders having an electronic ignition system, a pistons position sensor having a set of M+1 identical conductive members, which are synchronous with rotation of the engine's crankshaft. M of the conductive members are regularly spaced. Two fixed detectors adjacent the rotating members sense the members and supply identical electrical signals. The detectors are spaced to provide the signals out of phase by an amount that is substantially higher than the maximum ignition advance of the engine. Electronic circuits process the signals from the two detectors, include a first circuit that supplies a synchronization signal for the cycle igniting the engine, and a second circuit, which supplies two representative synchronization signals of the static advance and of the maximum dynamic advance during ignition.
