    摘要: In an automatic sheet-feeding device having utility in a copying machine, there are provided a cutter for cutting a sheet from a web (e.g. a strip of a recording medium) in accordance with the size of another sheet (e.g. an original sheet to be copied), a switch for detecting the trailing end of a moving original sheet, and a plurality of signal switches adapted to be actuated in succession by a signal-transmitting element incident to advance of the original sheet along a defined path past the detecting switch. The positions of the signal switches represent progressively increasing predetermined sheet lengths. Actuation of the detecting switch renders the signal switches effective to actuate the cutter, so that the first signal switch to be actuated by the transmitting element after the trailing end of the original sheet passes the detecting switch produces a signal that actuates the cutter.

The apparatus includes a first transport operable to advance a sheet of uncut labels to a first knife, the first knife serving following a predetermined label sheet advance to cut the sheet transversely to provide a strip-like piece; a first label conveyor to advance the strip-like piece to a second knife which, following an advance equal to one label length, serves to cut an individual label from the strip-like piece; and a second label conveyor to carry the cut label to the label transfer wheel for transfer to an article. The label transfer wheel is operated in response to movement of an article to be labeled into predetermined position to actuate the label transfer wheel and label the article.

    摘要: Apparatus is disclosed for feeding and cutting copy material from a roll in accordance with an original document fed into a multispeed, contact-type copying machine. The original and severed copy sheet are fed in synchronism into the machine by a pair of infeed rollers. A single sensing element positioned a predetermined distance upstream of the infeed rollers initiates the feeding of copy material from a selected roll upon being actuated by the leading edge of the original and causes the cessation of the feeding of copy material and the severing thereof, from the roll upon deactuation by the trailing edge of the original. The cessation of the feeding of copy material and the severing thereof is accomplished rapidly, due to the application of a high voltage to the brake of the copy material roll and to the cutting mechanism of the copying machine. The normal position of the leading edge of the copy material is nearer the infeed rollers than the sensing element, to insure registration of the leading edges of the original and copy material at the infeed rollers at high-speed settings. A delay in feeding and cutting the copy material is incorporated into the apparatus for low-speed operation. A second sensing element upstream of and laterally spaced from the first-mentioned sensing element selects an alternate copy material roll upon actuation thereof by the leading edge of the original. An additional, switching element in the path of the copy material causes the severing of copy material from a selected roll, at least of a predetermined length upon the feeding of relatively short originals into the copying machine. A manual cut mechanism is also provided for severing copy material from a roll when desired.
