A conventional light plate for a systems control panel is mounted on a machined front plate which, in turn, is maintained a predetermined uniform distance from a front printed wiring assembly (PWA). A plurality of systems control devices including one or more of switches (toggle switches, rotary switches, push button switches), rheostats and annunciators are mounted on the front plate and front PWA. Each of the systems control devices has one or more solid state elements mounted on the PWA. For example, the switches carry small magnets which, by manipulation of operating switch levers or knobs, move into and out of close proximity to magnet sensitive switching devices mounted on the front PWA.

The disclosed electrical switch comprises an insulating plastic carriage which is rotatable in a casing, and which supports one or more contactors adapted to engage a series of contact points on an insulating board at the rear of the casing. The carriage is moveable to first, second and third positions. The selective blocking action is brought about by an arrangement comprising a flexible spring arm which is formed integrally with the carriage and thus is preferably made of the same plastic material. When the carriage is moved between the first and second positions, the arm is flexed in one lateral direction by a first cam or ramp on the casing. In this way the arm is enabled to pass a stop which would otherwise block movement of the arm beyond the second position. When the carriage is moved between the second and third positions, the arm moves off the end of the first cam. Upon the return movement of the carriage between the third and second positions, the arm is flexed in a different lateral direction by a second cam or ramp which enables the arm to avoid the first cam. When the carriage reaches the second position, the arm is released so that it moves behind the stop. Thus, the carriage cannot be moved again to the third position until the carriage has been returned to the first position. The spring arm, formed integrally with the carriage, provides the selective blocking action without any need for extra moving parts. A recess is provided in said second cam behind said stop to receive said spring arm and to effect relaxation of the stress in said arm to prevent it from taking a set.

An electrical switch for use in road vehicles includes a casing carrying fixed contacts, and a rotor mounted for rotation in the casing of the rotor carrying a movable contact engageable with the fixed contacts to complete the circuits of the switch. The rotor has first and second stable positions with respect to the casing, and also has an unstable third position, the rotor being urged angularly from its third position back to its second position by a torsion spring. A cam form is provided on the casing, and a pawl is mounted on the rotor and is engageable with the cam form. The pawl is spring urged to either a first or second position relative to the rotor, and the arrangement of the pawl and the cam form on the casing is such that the pawl prevents movement of the rotor from its second position to its third position unless the previous movement of the rotor has been from its first position to its second position.

A safety locking mechanism for automobiles wherein the key turning with the lock rotor controls the switch of the vehicle circuitry through a rod coaxially carried by the rotor. The latter releases the bolt of actual locking means for a predetermined angular setting of the key which releases a yielding stop and allows thereby a spring to urge the bolt into its locking position. Another spring urges the rotor back into its normal position for which the engine is operative as soon as the starter has been actuated for a further position of the key. Repeated actuation of the starter is also prevented by an auxiliary contrivance.
