Abstract: Apparatus for capturing heat from a stove to enable it to be transferred to a central heating system is disclosed. The apparatus comprises an air-water heat exchanger, the heat exchanger having an air side and a water side and being operative to transfer heat between air on the air side and water flowing in channels in the water side. The apparatus includes an air duct through which air heated by a stove can pass by convection to contact the air side of the heat exchanger and control means operable to control the amount of air flowing to the heat exchanger. The control means may include a fan that can be operated to direct the flow of air to the heat exchanger.

Abstract: A thermal protective barrier is provided for space heating units in the form of a relatively thin panel having an interior volume filled with a non-combustible liquid (water and/or antifreeze mix, etc.). Two of the embodiments are flat and are adapted to be placed beneath and about the sides of a stove or other heating unit, with a third embodiment having a toroidal cross section and being adapted for installation about the flue of such a stove or heater. Additional structure may be installed within the panels to provide additional support, as required. The panels may be removably installed between the stove and adjacent walls and the underlying floor, or may be permanently installed integrally with the building structure. The panels may also include decorative coverings for exposed surfaces, if desired. The panels may be independent of other water or fluid systems, or may be interconnected with a water heater or hot water heating system, if desired. Temperature or pressure relief valves may also be incorporated in the event of superheating of the liquid within the panels.

Abstract: Disclosed is an add-on boiler that has an insulated cover covering a housing that carries a finned heat-recovery coil. The add-on boiler is mounted on the casing of a heating device to heat water in the coil with heat transferred by conduction and radiation. Abstract: A solid fuel burning stove having a hot water heating means. A water containing chamber open at the top for communication with room air serves the dual purpose of providing a heat sink for preheating water while at the same time providing a means for humidifying the room air. Domestic water heating coils are positioned so that cold water flows first through coils located at the water containing reservoir where it is preheated and then passes into the combustion chamber where it is heated to a high temperature before flowing into a hot water tank. The stove is preferably also provided with a small baking oven.

Abstract: An exterior wall of the firebox of a wood burning stove or the like fixedly supports in close heat exchanging relation therewith a plurality of aluminum fins comprising plates arranged in close side-by-side, substantially coplanar and parallel relation. A single continuous jointless tube of relatively stiff, heat conductive material is bent in a serpentine shape with elongate substantially parallel legs each fixed to the exterior face of a respective plate. Abstract: The present invention provides a heating appliance which comprises a combustion chamber, a boiler adjacent the combustion chamber, and a flue system for conveying combustion gases from the combustion chamber. The flue system has two different routes for conveying combustion gases and a damper which may be selectively positioned to cause the gases to pass predominantly along either one or the other route.
