Abstract: A web of bags for use in an automatic bagging machine is formed from a single layer of plastic film or a flattened tubular plastic film. When formed from the tubular material, the bags are doubled walled. The bags have lateral slits therein to accomodate opening of the bags in an automatic bagger. The bags are further configured to be received upon a track having an expandable portion that laterally displaces the bags in the web, causing them to open beneath a filling head for receipt of articles. A latter portion of the track allows the bags to resume their normally closed posture, where they are sealed and separated from each other.

Abstract: A bag dispenser, for separating and dispensing plastic bags from a roll of bags where one end is attached to the top of the next bag by perforation lines with a slot therebetween. The bags are dispensed from a device comprising a wire frame formed into arcuate channels to support the core that the series of bags are rolled onto. The dispenser includes a second tensioning member attached to a support member and disposed at an angle thereto to provide tension to the edges of the roll of bags as the core passes through the channel passageway as bags are removed from the roll. Spaced apart from the support is a symmetric separating tongue. The tongue will engage the slot regardless of whether the bags are drawn over or under the tongue. As the user pulls on the bags, a tension is created by the brake and the user to deflect the tongue which remains deflected until the tongue engages the slot. Thus, when the separator engages the slot, the tongue recoils through its normal position to facilitate the separation of the two bags. The dispenser may also include core retaining members located at the closed end of the arcuate channels to keep the core of smaller rolls from popping out and to retard rotation of the core.

Abstract: A multi-ply plastic bag from a continuous strip of bags on a roll is supplied to a user with the top of the bag partially opened. A tear line between the bottom of a leading bag and a top of a subsequent bag separates the individual bags. A broad slit centrally located in the tear line passes through all but one ply of the strip of bags. The bag dispenser has an upwardly projecting tongue which engages the slit in the tear line when a user draws a bag from the dispenser. The tongue impedes the subsequent bag from moving forward. The adjacent bags separate along the tear line. The ply which does not have a slit rides over the tongue and pulls apart the plies at the opening of the subsequent bag before the leading bag completely separates from the subsequent bag.

Abstract: A coil of an interconnected chain of open bags is provided in which the coil has a center opening having a diameter at least as great as the transverse dimension of the bags. A dispenser is provided on which a coil of bags is mounted. An end of the chain is pulled from the center opening and fed around a tapered mandrel and thence over a feed control mandrel oriented in angular relationship with the tapered mandrel. The web is then fed to a bagging machine for dispensing, loading and closing of the bags. The table on which the coil is mounted is rotatable so that the orientation of a span of bags running from the coil to the tapered mandrel remains substantially constant as the web is fed.

Abstract: A roll of plastic bags is wound on an axle which is adapted to be retained within a dispensing device. The bags may be of any configuration but, preferably, are of the type known as a star seal with individual bags separated by perforated separation lines. The bags are wound around a core which can be retained on the axle so that the roll can rotate with respect to the axle when the axle is fixed within the dispensing device. A slot is provided in each separation line between adjacent bags, the slot adapted to engage a complementary tongue in the dispensing device for separating the individual bags. The width of the roll is such relative to the tongue that when an individual bag has been separated from the roll, portions of the next bag on the roll extend forwardly of the tongue where they are in a position to be grasped by a user and subsequently severed from the roll. The roller may include a feature for retarding rotation of the roll of bags relative to the axle.

Abstract: A plastic bag dispenser holds a continuous roll of bags, connected by perforated separation lines. The dispenser is provided with a tongue, which the bags are dispensed over, that engages the separation line between the bag at the end of the roll and the next bag. This begins the separation of the separation line, as well as holds the next bag behind the tongue. A finger is provided on the upstream side of the tongue, with a gap between the finger and tongue. As a bag is separated, a portion of the front edge of the next bag is held in the gap, holding the bag in position for the next user.

Abstract: A plastic film bag with overlying front and rear bag walls, the upper edges of which define a bag mouth. Pleats defined in each bag wall extend vertically downward from the mouth-forming edges. The pleats, upon expansion by direct finger engagement therewith or the application of outwardly directed opposite forces on the opposed ends of the mouth portion of the bag, cause a lateral separation of the edges for initiating opening of the bag mouth. Abstract: A continuous roll or stack of thermoplastic bags having improved openability is disclosed. The bags feature an area of permanently tacky, pressure-sensitive adhesive, applied to an outer surface of each bag. When a bag is pulled from the roll or stack, the adhesive temporarily adheres one side of the bag to the roll or stack, causing the front and back of the bag to separate slightly, thereby enhancing openability. Also disclosed are thermoplastic bags onto the surface of which an area of adhesive is applied in such a manner that the bags are self-closing when twisted shut in the area of the adhesive.

Abstract: A one piece paperboard carton blank is folded into a rectangular shape for packaging and dispensing from a roll of individual plastic bags, particularly disposable milk bottles for feeding babies. The carton has a double wall front part which includes an inner top rigidly supporting a tab protruding in a direction opposite to the direction of withdrawal of bags from the roll. When a first plastic bag is withdrawn it starts to pull out a succeeding bag to which it is removably attached along a line of perforations. When the center of the perforated edge of the succeeding bag is impaled on the tab, further withdrawal of the succeeding bag is restrained and the first bag is readily separated to facilitate its dispensing and to place the leading edge of the succeeding bag where it may be easily reached for withdrawal.
