    Abstract: Wireless communication systems and methods related to spectrum use negotiations are provided. A first wireless communication device transmits, to a controlling entity of a spectrum, a spectrum use request for a local operator to use the spectrum for a time period. The first wireless communication device receives, from the controlling entity, a spectrum use grant indicating that the local operator is promoted from a first priority to a second priority for accessing the spectrum during the time period. The first wireless communication device communicates with a second wireless communication device in the spectrum during the time period based on the second priority, where at least the first wireless communication device or the second wireless communication device is associated with the local operator.

    Abstract: Various aspects of the present disclosure generally relate to wireless communication. In some aspects, a transmitter device may determine that a communication is to be transmitted on a shared spectrum during a channel access interval not reserved for the communication. The transmitter device may determine, based at least in part on determining that the communication is to be transmitted, that a detection power of a listen-before-talk (LBT) operation satisfies a threshold. The transmitter device may transmit, after a coordinated rate control region and based at least in part on the detection power of the LBT operation satisfying the threshold, a reservation request signal associated with the communication. The transmitter device may transmit the communication before an end of the channel access interval based at least in part on a response to the reservation request signal. Numerous other aspects are provided.

    Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communication are described. A user equipment (UE) and base station may communicate using narrow band internet of things (NB-IoT) techniques or enhanced machine type communication (eMTC) in unlicensed spectrum. The UE may be an eMTC device or another device capable of communication without user direction. The UE may identify a geographic region and select a communication mode that is consistent with regulatory restrictions in that region. For example, in some cases, the communication mode may be based on using time division duplexing (TDD), using frequency hopping, or performing a listen-before-talk (LBT) procedure at the base station. A frame structure for TDD may include LBT subframes, uplink portions, downlink portions, and special subframes for switching. The base station may perform LBT procedures in the LBT subframes. If frequency hopping is enabled, a configurable number of TDD frames may be grouped into a hopping frame block.

    Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described that provide for refinement of receive beam beamforming parameters at a user equipment (UE). A UE may transmit two or more signals in an uplink transmission that have different beamforming parameters. A base station receiving the uplink transmission may measure the two or more signals, and identify a first signal of the two or more signals based at least in part on the measuring. The base station may inform the UE of the identified first signal, which the UE may use to set receive beam beamforming parameters for one or more subsequent downlink transmissions.

    Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described in which base stations and user equipment (UEs) may transmit using identified wireless resources in millimeter wave (mmW) radio frequency spectrum. A UE may receive an uplink grant from a base station that indicates uplink resources for transmission of uplink data from the UE to the base station in a shared mmW radio frequency spectrum band. An indication of a duration of a listen-before-talk (LBT) procedure may be provided in or with the uplink grant. The UE may perform, responsive to receiving the uplink grant, the LBT procedure to determine that the shared mmW radio frequency spectrum band is available for the uplink transmission. Based on the outcome of the LBT procedure, the UE may transmit the uplink data to the base station using the uplink resources indicated in the uplink grant.

    Abstract: Techniques are described herein to selectively protect some resources of a transmission opportunity, but not all resources of a transmission opportunity. A base station may schedule resources to be used to communicate data with a user equipment (UE). To indicate to potential interference sources, a silencing message may broadcast to other network entities. The silencing message may include an indication of resources to be protected for a transmission between the base station and the UE. The silencing message may indicate a subset of resources that is less than a set of all resources of a transmission opportunity. In some examples, the silencing message may indicate a subset of frequency subbands of the transmission opportunity. In response to the silencing message, potential interference sources may refrain from communicating data during the indicated subset of resources.

    Abstract: In an embodiment, a central coordination server (e.g., a Spectrum Access Server) partitions a shared communication medium into a contention-free partition where the shared communication medium is reserved for devices associated with a first set of operators and a contention-based partition where devices associated with a second set of operators contend for access to the shared communication medium, at least one operator belonging to both the first and second sets of operators. The central coordination server notifies target devices (e.g., APs, ATs, etc.) of the partitioning. In a further embodiment, a device (e.g., AP, AT, etc.) communicates over a portion of the contention-free partition that is reserved for an associated operator, and also over the contention-based partition.
