Abstract:
A surgical instrument comprising a handle portion, an elongated body portion extending distally from the handle portion, and a tool adjacent the distal portion of the elongated body portion and having at least one jaw movable to a clamping position to clamp tissue. A tactile feedback system includes an expandable member extending from the handle portion, the expandable member providing a tactile indicator of a tissue parameter of tissue clamped by the least one jaw.
Abstract:
A surgical scope for viewing a surgical site of a patient including an elongated tube, a viewing lens having an outer surface positioned at the distal portion of the scope, and a lens cleaner positioned at the distal portion and translatable between a first position and a second position. The lens cleaner includes an arcuate wiper having a complementary shape to the shape of the lens. An actuator is spaced proximally of the wiper and actuable to translate the wiper along the outer surface of the lens.
Abstract:
A wireless laparoscopic camera system includes a housing having proximal and distal ends and a lens disposed at the distal end thereof. A chip package is disposed within the housing. The chip package is positioned proximally of the lens and includes an image sensor, a processing component, and a wireless transmitter. The image sensor, the processing component, and the wireless transmitter are configured as bare die and are stacked and coupled in sequence with respect to one another to form the chip package. The chip package is configured to convert an optical image produced by the lens into an electrical signal. The signal is transmitted wirelessly to a wireless receiver positioned remote of the housing.
Abstract:
A method for fabricating a laser diode comprising providing a laser diode epitaxial structure and depositing a metal layer stack on the epitaxial structure, the stack comprising a contact and sacrificial layer. A ridge is formed in the laser diode epitaxial structure, the stack being the mask forming the ridge. An insulting layer is deposited over the ridge and at least a portion of the sacrificial layer is removed. At least a portion of the insulating thin film at the top of the stack is also removed. A pad metal is deposited in electrical contact with the contact and the pad metal is insulated from the ridge and laser diode epitaxial structures by the insulting layer. A laser diode fabricated using the method comprises a laser diode epitaxial structure having a ridge with mesas on the sides of the ridge. A p-contact is on the ridge, and an insulating layer covers the exposed surfaces of the ridge, and at least a portion of the mesas. A pad metal is on the insulating layer and in electrical contact the p-contact. The pad metal is also insulated from the surfaces of the ridge and mesas by the insulating layer.
