It is possible to judge simultaneous decompression of both front wheel tires or both rear wheel tires when employing the present invention.

A wear condition detecting apparatus for a tire comprising: (a) a rotational speed detecting means for regularly detecting rotational speeds of tires of four wheels presently attached to a vehicle, (b) a calculating means for calculating a ratio of a rotational speed of a front wheel to a rotational speed of a rear wheel based on a measured value obtained by the rotational speed detecting means, and for obtaining a relational formula between the rotational speed ratio and an acceleration of the vehicle, and (c) a comparing means for comparing a slope of the relational formula obtained by the calculating means with a preliminarily known slope of a relational formula between a rotational speed ratio of a tire and an acceleration of the vehicle. According to the present invention, the wear condition of a tire can be known, so that the performance and safety of a vehicle can be improved.

Further, a loading sensitivity-calculating method of determining the loading sensitivity of the dynamic load radii of tires includes steps of: determining a lateral acceleration during turning of a vehicle, determining the shift rate of a judgment value which is the relative comparison of rotational speed of wheels on a pair of diagonals of a vehicle, and determining the loading sensitivity.

A method and apparatus for judging a decrease in internal pressure of a tire attached to a four-wheeled vehicle and for accordingly generating an alarm, wherein a threshold for judging decompression is set to be larger immediately after switching an ignition key ON when compared to a threshold for the vehicle in a normal running condition, and decompression is judged in a decompression judging time which is shorter than a time for the vehicle in a normal running condition. The threshold for judging decompression and the decompression judging time are returned to that for the normal running condition of the vehicle in the case no decompression is judged. It is thus possible to detect a condition in which a large decompressed condition exists at an early stage before running begins so that it is possible to improve the accuracy of detecting decompression.

Initialization is accepted only after the internal pressure has become normal, whereby erroneous initialization with any tire being in a decompressed condition can be prevented. Determination of decompression can be reliably performed in the proximity of a region at which the lateral axis is 0, since the judged values (DEL values) obtained while the differentiation is restricted are focused at points at which the lateral axis is 0, that is, on the vertical axis.

An apparatus performing the method is also disclosed. The method and apparatus improve the accuracy of determining decompression of air-pressure by incorporating a correction term related to differences in tread widths of a vehicle.
