After the esterification, the reaction mixture is washed with aqueous solutions having an alkaline reaction and then reacted at elevated temperature with carbodiimides. Acid numbers below 0.5 (mg of KOH/g of substance) are obtained in this way. (Meth)acrylic acid esters are used, for example, as reactive diluents or as comonomers.
