Abstract:
Bimetallic catalyst for producing polyethylene resins with a bimodal molecular weight distribution, its preparation and use. The catalyst is obtainable by a process which includes contacting a support material with an organomagnesium component and carbonyl-containing component. The support material so treated is contacted with a non-metallocene transition metal component to obtain a catalyst intermediate, the latter being contacted with an aluminoxane component and a metallocene component, This catalyst may be further activated with, e.g., alkylaluminum cocatalyst, and contacted, under polymerization conditions, with ethylene and optionally one or more comonomers, to produce ethylene homo- or copolymers with a bimodal molecular weight distribution and improved resin swell properties in a single reactor. These ethylene polymers are particularly suitable for blow molding applications.
Abstract:
Embolic coil implant systems and methods whereby coils are mechanically detachable are disclosed. The coils include a retention element that may be releasably retained within the distal end of an implant tool. The implant tool may include a fulcrum configured to engage a first filament and prevent the release of the coil when the first filament is engaged. Alternatively, an urging means and aperture may be disposed within the sidewall of the implant tool, and a first filament may, in conjunction with the aperture and sidewall, releasably retain the coil until the first filament is withdrawn. The implant tool may also include an alignment member for aligning the first filament.
Abstract:
The present application is directed towards systems and methods for building a living space during construction of a multi-unit housing structure. In particular, the present application describes various embodiments of prefabricated building modules that may be built and equipped with plumbing, HVAC and/or electrical fixtures prior to installation in a multi-unit housing structure. Because modules may be configured prior to installation in a housing structure, the use of prefabricated building modules may increase efficiency of construction and provide enhanced customization over other non-configurable building units.
Abstract:
A fluid cutting head of the type having a plurality of nozzles in a rotatable nozzle assembly for cutting a bore hole in rock. The cutting head has nozzles arranged to be supplied with high pressure drilling fluid, forming jets positioned to cut adjacent rock. The nozzles include one or more generally axially facing pilot nozzles, and one or more generally radially facing reaming nozzles. At least the pilot nozzles include a non-tapering outlet section such that the jet issuing therefrom is of substantially constant cross-section in a zone immediately adjacent the outlet section. The pilot nozzles are located in a leading part of the rotatable nozzle assembly, and have a minimized diameter. The reaming nozzles are located in the following part of the rotatable nozzle assembly. The following part of the rotatable nozzle assembly is formed in a step-wise fashion to keep the reaming nozzles close to the rock face.
Abstract:
A rod coercer for use in spinal fixation procedures is provided. In one embodiment, the rod coercer includes a handle having at least one rod contacting arm extending therefrom; an implant gripping assembly pivotally interconnected with the handle; and first and second implant gripping levers interconnected with the implant gripping assembly and including first and second protrusions biased to engage corresponding recesses of the implant. The protrusions can be selectively retracted from the recesses of the implant by pivoting the implant gripping levers.
Abstract:
A system for mechanically deploying intraluminal implants is disclosed. The system is used with an implant that is delivered and/or deployed via a pull wire and includes a handle having a funnel and receiving channel for receiving the pull wire, a slider having a thumb grip and a wedge, and a shuttle having a grabber for grasping the pull wire. The thumb grip is pulled proximally to retract the wedge to cause the grabber to grasp the wire and retract the shuttle but not the wire. An extension spring linked between the slider and the shuttle abruptly pulls the shuttle to retract the pull wire after the slider is fully retracted.
Abstract:
Alternative designs, materials and manufacturing methods for medical retrieval devices. Some embodiments pertain to a medical retrieval device including a cage having internal migration barriers therein. Some embodiments pertain to a medical retrieval device including a cage having variable diameters along the length thereof. Several alternative medical retrieval devices constructions and/or designs including methods and techniques of construction are also disclosed.
Abstract:
A process and apparatus for a method for reducing the amount of acrylamide in thermally processed foods. This invention permits the production of foods having significantly reduced levels of acrylamide. The method relies on the manipulation of various unit operations used in the production of food products, particularly the washing and cooking unit operations. For example, the washing unit operation can be modified to provide a contacting step at an increased time and temperature, and adding components such as calcium chloride and L-cysteine to an aqueous solution used for the contacting. The cooking unit operation can be modified by dividing it into at least a higher-temperature first heating step and a lower-temperature second heating step in order to avoid the high-temperature/low-moisture conditions most favorable for acrylamide formation.
Abstract:
A protractor is disclosed that reduces the time to teach students how to measure and understand angles, and significantly improves overall student comprehension of angles. The protractor comprises two generally flat members each having a straight edge portion radial to a pivot point to which the members are rotatably attached such that the straight edges define an open sector area having an angle formed by the two edges, one member having angle indicia on a semi-circular portion thereof, and the other member having an indicator portion that intersects the angle indicia to enable the angle defined by the two straight edges to be measured. The protractor offers a significant increase in convenience in measuring and drawing angles.
