Abstract:
A signaling method reduces bandwidth requirements and signaling delays normally associated with sending text-based signaling messages over a wireless links. An application at a transmitting endpoint generates and sends a binary-encoded signaling message, along with a binary interpreter that enables the receiving endpoint or SIP server to construct a text-based message from the binary encoded message. The binary-encoded signaling message may include references to a saved state, or to a dictionary to enable compression of the message. The signaling method can be used with any text-based signaling protocol, such as the Session Initiation Protocol, the Session Description Protocol, and the Real Time Streaming Protocol.
Abstract:
In a method for sharing multimedia application data by a plurality of communication devices, at least two communication devices establish a short-rang wireless communication link to a data distribution device. At least one of the communication devices informs the data distribution device of the data that are offered for sharing, and these data are presented by the data distribution device on a display. A user of one of the communication devices being connected to the data distribution device selects and requests data that he wants to download to a communication device, and the requested data are then transmitted to the communication device via the data distribution device.
Abstract:
An apparatus is provided for enabling communication between telephony devices. The apparatus includes a queue operable to receive incoming media packets from the telephony devices, and a payload segmenter coupled to the queue and operable to divide an incoming payload section of each incoming packet into one or more data segments. The apparatus also includes a mixer coupled to the payload segmenter and operable to mix the data segments from the telephony devices to create an aggregate data segment. Furthermore, the apparatus includes a reassembly buffer coupled to the mixer and operable to construct an outgoing payload section for one or more telephony devices by linking successively generated aggregate data segments.
Abstract:
The present invention is a system and method for packetizing actual noise signals, typically background noise, received by an access gateway from a speaking party and transmitting these packetized noise signals via a network to an egress gateway. The egress gateway converts the packetized noise signal into noise signals suitable for output and transmits the output noise signals to a listening party. When the access gateway detects that no voice signal is being received and only a noise signal is being received for a predetermined period of time, the access gateway instructs the egress network to continually transmit output noise signals to the listening party and ceases to transmit packetized noise signals to the egress gateway.
Abstract:
A Digital Living Network Alliance (DLNA) system and method transform multimedia contents in a manner adaptive to the available data processing capability of the digital media renderer (DMR) of the DLNA network. A digital media server (DMS) and a digital media renderer (DMR) are discovered. A list of contents provided by the DMS is obtained. Information on a transport protocol and a data format of the DMR is obtained. Information on available data processing capability of the DMR is obtained. The transport protocol and the data format of the DMS are matched to those of the DMR. Transcoding and transrating schemes of the DMS are adjusted based on the available data processing capability of the DMR. A connection between the DMS and the DMR is established, and content stored in the DMS is transmitted to the DMR.
Abstract:
A system may provide trust relationship information for a telephone number, where the trust relationship information may indicate whether one or more nodes consider a target node as including or as being associated with a VoIP call agent for the telephone number based on demonstrated knowledge of a PSTN call. The system may determine a target trust relationship to the target node based on the trust relationship information, where the target trust relationship indicates a level of trust a validating node has in the target node being associated with or including the VoIP call agent for the telephone number, and where validating node and the one or more nodes may be in different respective administrative domains of a network.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus supporting the handling of multimedia information using simulcasting using a broadband access gateway are disclosed. A broadband access gateway supporting both a personal area network and a broadband network may receive multimedia information during exchanges between access devices over a wireless wide area network. The wireless wide area network may intercept multimedia information, and may, for example, determine that the access device of the recipient is incompatible with the multimedia information. The wide area network may then redirect the multimedia information to a broadband access gateway that may cause the storage of the received multimedia information. In another representative embodiment of the present invention, the wide area network may adapt intercepted multimedia information to be compatible with the access device of the recipient, and may also redirect the original intercepted multimedia information to a broadband access gateway. The broadband access gateway may then cause the original intercepted multimedia information to be stored for later access. A recipient of the multimedia attachment or information may be notified of the redirection of the multimedia attachment or information, and may retrieve the stored multimedia information using a wired or wireless access device.
Abstract:
A method and arrangement for enabling access to a home device in a private network from a remote device located outside the private network. The private network includes a multimedia gateway connected to a multimedia service network. A session invite message is sent from the remote device to the multimedia gateway. In response, connection parameters of a residential gateway in the private network are sent to the remote device, which are associated with the selected home device if a home device identification was included in the received message, or with a proxy function in the multimedia gateway capable of providing home device information, if no such identification was included in the received message. In this way, home devices in the private network can be easily and safely accessed remotely.
Abstract:
A computer-based distributed private branch exchange (PBX). Preferred embodiments route calls and perform other functions of a PBX as well as performing services not commonly available on a PBX, such as Internet telephony. In one embodiment, the invention control and operations is distributed among several computers or Personal Computers (PCs) on a computer network.
Abstract:
In one embodiment, an apparatus may receive at least one call attribute of a public switched telephone network (PSTN) call initiated to a destination telephone number. The apparatus may verify a destination Voice-over-Internet-Protocol (VoIP) call agent for the destination telephone number based on demonstrated knowledge of the PSTN call. The apparatus may transmit an indication the destination VoIP call agent is verified for the destination telephone number.
