Abstract: An electrosurgical device comprising: (a) a stylet including: (i) a first jaw; (ii) a second jaw that is movable relative to the first jaw from a first position where the first jaw and the second jaw are open to a second position where the first jaw and the second jaw move towards each other to grasp tissue therebetween; and (iii) one or more jaw support rods connected to the first jaw, the second jaw, or both; and (b) a housing connected to the stylet and the stylet extending from the housing, the housing including: (i) an operable mechanism including: (1) a fourth link; (2) a second link; (3) a first link being connected to the fourth link via a first pivot and being rotatable relative to the first pivot, and connected to the second link at a second pivot so that movement of the first link moves the second link relative to the fourth link; and (4) a third link being connected to the second link at a third pivot so that movement of the second link moves the third link, and the fourth link being connected to the third link at a fourth pivot, the third link moving about the fourth pivot to move the one or more jaw supports so that the first jaw and the second jaw are moved between the first position and the second position; and wherein the fourth link is the housing and the first link is a clamp lever that extends outside of the housing and is actuated by a user.

Abstract: An apparatus including a housing, an electrical conductor, and a suction control valve. The housing forms a handle and a shaft. The housing defines a suction channel from a distal end of the shaft. The electrical conductor extends to the distal end of the shaft. The suction control valve is connected to the suction channel at the handle. The suction control valve includes a valve body having a first channel and a second channel connected to the first channel, where the first channel forms a portion of the suction channel; and a valve barrel rotatably connected to the valve body. The valve barrel includes a rotatable ring extending around the handle and forming a portion of the housing. The ring includes an orifice configured to be rotated into and out of registration with an end of the second channel as the ring is rotated about the valve body.

Abstract: A lithotripter is provided for fragmenting a stone inside a patient's body. In one form, the lithotripter includes a motor having at least two modes of operation and is configured to produce first and second waveforms. A wave guide shaft is configured to transmit the first and second waveforms to the stone. In one form, at least one of the first and second waveforms is provided to the stone at a frequency that is about equal to a natural frequency of the stone. In a variation, the lithotripter may include an ultrasonic driver configured to produce an ultrasonic frequency waveform and a sonic driver configured to produce a sonic frequency waveform. The sonic driver is mechanically coupled to the ultrasonic driver. The ultrasonic driver and the sonic driver may be disposed within a driver housing. In another variation, the lithotripter may include a brushless DC motor.

Abstract: A stone retrieval device includes a sheath and a stone retrieval basket that includes a distal region with a plurality of basket wires and a proximal region with one or more core wires. The stone retrieval basket is contained within the sheath and is movable out a distal opening of the sheath to cause the plurality of basket wires to open into a basket shape. The stone retrieval device further includes a lock mechanism that locks the position of the stone retrieval basket with respect to the position of the sheath and a basket force controller that includes a first and a second control stage. The first control stage includes a sensor for measuring force on the stone retrieval basket when the lock mechanism is in an unlocked position, and the second control stage includes a sensor for measuring force when the lock mechanism is in a locked position.
