Abstract:
During uplink traffic, a map is formed between the MAC address and an upper layer identifier of each station of a communications network. When a downlink unicast packet is received, the identifier is compared to the map to select a corresponding MAC address. The packet having the selected MAC address is delivered to the station. During uplink, the MAC address of the station generating the packet is replaced with the MAC address of the relay receiving the packet. A device receiving an uplink multicast packet is assigned a temporary MAC address which remains valid during a known period. The device replaces the MAC address of the station generating the multicast packet with the temporary MAC address to generate a new packet that is transferred up the link. A downlink packet that includes the temporary MAC address and is received during the first time period is delivered as a response packet.
Abstract:
Systems, methods, and devices for address format detection are described herein. In one aspect, a method of detecting whether an addressing format is supported by an access point on a wireless network is disclosed. The method includes transmitting a request to an access point using an addressing format including a source address field and a separate transmitter address field. In some aspects, the request may be an address resolution protocol (ARP) request or an Internet Control Message Protocol (ICMP) ping request. The request includes the source address field set to a first address and the transmitter address field set to a second address; monitoring transmissions of the access point to determine whether the access point transmits a response to the request that includes a destination address equal to the first address; and determining whether the access point supports the addressing format based on the monitoring.
Abstract:
Systems, methods, and devices for communicating data in a wireless communications network are described herein. In some aspects, a relay is configured to receive at least one first parameter advertised by a first potential parent relay and at least one second parameter advertised by a second potential parent relay. The relay may be further configured to select the first potential parent relay or the second potential parent relay to relay one or more packets based on the at least one first parameter advertised by the first potential parent relay and the at least one second parameter advertised by the second potential parent relay.
Abstract:
Methods and devices for communicating in a communication system are described herein. In one aspect, methods and devices for group based access control of machine to machine devices for wireless communication are described. One method includes forming a machine-to-machine (M2M) group identifier based on a M2M service category. The method further includes associating the M2M group identifier with at least one wireless device. The method further includes transmitting data intended for receipt by the M2M group, the data including the M2M group identifier.
Abstract:
Techniques are provided for smooth transition between broadcast/multicast transmission and unicast transmission. A method for managing unicast and multicast services switching in a multi-band/multi-frequency wireless communications system (WCS) capable of both unicast and multicast signaling includes determining whether an aggregate demand for a content provided via dedicated unicast transmissions exceeds a threshold. The method includes switching transmission of the content from the dedicated unicast transmissions on one frequency to a multicast transmission on a second or more frequencies in response to determining that the aggregate demand exceeds the threshold.
Abstract:
A method includes receiving discovery messages from respective devices of an ad-hoc wireless network. The messages are received by a first device in the ad-hoc wireless network prior to a particular discovery interval. The discovery messages include information identifying the respective devices. The method further includes caching the information identifying the respective devices. During the particular discovery interval, a first discovery message is sent. The first discovery message includes a request to reserve a paging interval during the particular discovery interval. The first discovery message further includes an indication of the information.
Abstract:
Systems and methods of limiting wireless discovery range are described. A transmitting device may limit wireless discovery range by adjusting one or more transmission attributes of a discovery message, measuring inter-device distance based on range determination messages, or any combination thereof. A receiving device may limit wireless discovery range based on one or more attributes of a received discovery message, measuring inter-device distance based on range determination messages, or any combination thereof. Discovery messages may include a range adaptation bit indicating whether range adaptation is to be performed.
Abstract:
Methods, devices, and computer program products for peer-to-peer communication are described herein. In one aspect, an apparatus includes a receiver and processor. The receiver is configured to receive a first data unit from a first device. The first data unit includes a Media Access Control (MAC) address of the first device and data. The processor is configured to generate a device address of the processor and a device address of the first device, and provide the generated device address of the processor, the generated device address of the first device, and the data of the first data unit to an application executable on the processor.
Abstract:
Techniques are provided for receiving one or more representations of content wirelessly. The method may involve receiving a media presentation description (MPD) that includes parameters for reception of data segments for multiple representations of content via broadcast transmission and unicast transmission. The method may involve determining whether the broadcast transmission or the unicast transmission is appropriate for reception of the data segments, and selecting a given representation from among the multiple representations of the content based on a criteria of the mobile entity. The method may involve receiving the data segments for the given representation based at least in part on the parameters for the determined one of the broadcast transmission and the unicast transmission.
Abstract:
Access terminals are adapted to facilitate use of modified cell reselection parameters and/or procedures for access terminals exhibiting low or no mobility. An access terminal may employ one or more mobile thresholds to determine whether to perform cell reselection when the access terminal is mobile, and one or more stationary threshold to determine whether to perform cell reselection when the access terminal is stationary or substantially stationary. Methods operational on access terminals include determining the access terminal to be stationary or substantially stationary, and employing one or more stationary thresholds to determine whether to perform a cell reselection when the access terminal is determined to be at least substantially stationary. Other aspects, embodiments, and features are also included.
