Abstract: A non-detonable shaped charge capable of becoming detonable upon activation. The shaped charge may be utilized for use with a perforating gun in oilfield applications. In this regard, during transport and other handling in advance of reaching the application site, the charge may be non-detonable. However, upon an intentionally directed activation, such as through heating, the shaped charge may be detonable.

Abstract: A liner for a shaped charge including an inner layer made of a material having a density below 10.5 g/cm3, and an outer layer made of a material having a density below 2.0 g/cm3, wherein the outer layer is formed directly on the inner layer. In a first state, both the inner layer and the outer layer are compressed towards the symmetry axis (x) of the liner, thereby forming a projectile. In a second state, the inner layer forms a penetration jet of the projectile and the outer layer forms a slug of the projectile. The melting point of the outer layer is above 100° C. The invention also concerns a shaped charge including the liner, a method for manufacturing the liner and a method for detonation of the shaped charge.

Abstract: A gradient control method for a microstructure ultrafine crystallization of a deep cone copper shaped charge liner includes the steps of an extrusion forming, a recrystallization heat treatment, and a high-frequency percussion. A multi-pass extrusion is used in the extrusion forming, and in the high-frequency percussion step, a percussion speed is 30,000 to 40,000 times/min, a percussion force is 1600 N to 2000 N, and a number of percussion times is 1 to 3. The forming and surface quality control of the deep cone shaped charge liner are realized by the control technology of the present invention; the plasticity of the material is improved, and fine crystal structures are obtained; and an ultrafine grain gradient structure distributed along the thickness direction is formed in the inner surface of the shaped charge liner.

Abstract: A linear shaped charge includes a sheath having an open end and an opposite closed end. A peripheral wall extends longitudinally from an end wall a predetermined length. The peripheral wall has a first wall thickness and the end wall has a second wall thickness. The second wall thickness of the end wall is equal to or greater than the first wall thickness of the peripheral wall. The peripheral wall and the end wall cooperatively define a cavity. The linear shaped charge also includes an explosive material disposed within and substantially filling the cavity.

Abstract: A shaped charge for use in a well perforating tool includes a jet blocker disposed in an apex of a parabolic or cone-shaped liner. The jet blocker limits the velocity and/or length of a jet that forms upon discharging an explosive in the shaped charge. The jet blocker may include an inert cast-cure type of material such as an epoxy or a flowable plastic that can be readily inserted into an existing shaped charge to fill an external concavity in the liner to any desired height. The height and material selected for the jet blocker determines the degree to which the penetration achieved by the shaped charge is limited, and thus, determines which targeted annulus in the wellbore may be penetrated in operation.
