摘要： A breakaway mounting assembly for a cutting torch or other non-contact tool includes a tool mounting collar with an outer frustoconical bearing surface adapted to be received in an annular support ring having a complimentary inner frustoconical bearing surface providing precision torch positioning. Resilient spring-biased detents hold the torch and mounting collar in the operating position, but are deflected in the event the torch collides with an obstruction, allowing the torch to be dislodged from the mounting without damage. The dislodged torch can be remounted with a simple snap-in action and precise realignment is automaticaly established. A switch which is activated by displacement between the supporting frustoconical bearing surfaces may be used to signal the operator or cause an appropriate response in the torch carriage operating system.

摘要： A fluid controlled rotary shaft speed limiting arrangement has a brake disk secured to the shaft for rotational movement therewith. A braking arrangement exerts a braking force on the brake disk according to the amount of fluid pressure present in a brake piston chamber. The flow of pressurized fluid into and the flow of pressurized fluid out of the brake piston chamber is controlled by a valve arrangement, a portion of which is formed on the brake disk. The portion of the valve arrangement formed on the brake disk effects a change in the flow of pressurized fluid through the brake piston chamber if the rotational velocity of the shaft and brake disk varies from a preselected value. Such variation in the rotational velocity corresponds to such change in pressurized fluid flow such that, a proportional braking force is exerted on the brake disk.

摘要： A surface grinding machine capable of being computer operated and having a multi-function capability for performing conventional slot and surface, plunge, side wheel, creep feed and short stroke grinding in any desired combination or sequence. A table containing a workpiece is driven by a highly tensioned, circulating primary belt drive system capable of providing a desired grind with a desired length and speed upon command. The base is formed as a unitary body, and the table travels on ways which are formed integrally with the base. The column containing the grinding wheel assembly moves with respect to the workpiece along cross ways transverse to the table ways which are supported along their length by the base. The column drive is coupled to the column by a mechanically and thermally isolated ball screw nut mount which eliminates screw nut shoulder weave and reduces thermal conduction into the column. A housing containing the grinding wheel moves vertically along ways in the column and a magnetic brake is utilized in the vertical drive for the wheel housing to prevent damage to the workpiece during power interruption. Both the vertical ways for the wheel housing and the horizontal cross ways for the column are self-aligning and include a shoe and a cage containing needle roller bearings which is driven by a rack and pinion arrangement along the ways. A computer terminal may be provided for automatic control of the machine, as well as a manual control panel which is slidable across the front of the machine for convenience in operation thereof.

摘要： A tool carriage for a machine tool is mounted on a support for movement between a working position and a rest position. The machine drive moves the carriage in a path from the rest position into the working position and thereafter permits return to the rest position. A spring interposed between the carriage and the support is stressed during carriage movement into the working position so that the stressed spring biases the carriage to return to the rest position. An auxiliary return device supplements the biasing force of the spring and thereby augments the force available for returning the carriage toward the rest position at least in a position of the carriage adjacent the working position.

The support carries apparatus such as an X-ray source at selected heights above and about a patient. A counterbalance system is housed in the carriage. A cable and pulley system including two primary support cables interconnects the column sections and the counterbalance. Breakage or stretching of the primary support cables as well as breakage of cables within the counterbalance system is sensed and causes a failsafe system to lock the column against further downward movement.
