    Abstract: One variation of a method for automatically mapping light elements in light structures arranged in an assembly includes: defining a sequence of test frames—each specifying activation of a unique subset of light elements in the assembly—executable by the set of light structures; serving the sequence of test frames to the assembly for execution; receiving photographic test images of the assembly, each photographic test image recorded during execution of one test frame by the assembly; for each photographic test image, identifying a location of a particular light element based on a local change in light level represented in the photographic test image, the particular light element activated by the set of light structures according to a test frame during recordation of the photographic test image; and aggregating locations of light elements identified in photographic test images into a virtual map representing positions of light elements within the assembly.

    Abstract: A method for controlling a lighting device to produce a range of user customisable realistic lighting effects for videography, broadcasting, cinematography, studio filming and/or location filming is disclosed.     Abstract: A system (100) for determining the presence of a person is disclosed. The system (100) comprises a first user input device (102), located at a first space (112), arranged for generating a request signal based on a first user input. The system further comprises a plurality of lighting devices (108, 110), located at a second space (114), different from the first space (112), arranged for providing general illumination. The system further comprises a second device (104), located at the second space (114), arranged for generating a response signal, wherein the response signal is based on an indication of the presence of the person. The system further comprises a processor (106) arranged for receiving the request signal and the response signal, wherein the processor (106) is further arranged for changing a light setting of a first lighting device (108) of the plurality of lighting devices (108, 110) upon receiving the request signal, and for changing, when the response signal has not been received within a predetermined period of time, the light setting of a subsequent lighting device (110) of the plurality of lighting devices (108, 110).

    Abstract: A control unit for use in a lighting system. The control unit comprises: a localization module which detects when a portable lighting device is within a predetermined vicinity of a fixed light source; and a controller which selects between different roles for the portable light source, the roles comprising (i) an independent role where the light output of the fixed and portable light sources are controlled independently of one another, and one or both of (ii) a slave role where the light output of the portable light source is adjusted in dependence on that of the fixed light source, and/or (iii) a master role where the light output of the fixed light source is adjusted in dependence on that of the portable light source. The controller is configured to switch to one of the slave role oi the master role in response to the detection of the predetermined vicinity.
