    摘要: Various embodiments of a self-calibration circuit may solve the problem that arises in high performance oscilloscopes and in particular, RF oscilloscopes, of internally providing a precision calibration signal without degrading the bandwidth, flatness of the frequency response, and input return loss of the oscilloscope. The self-calibration circuit may be configured to implement an impedance transformation technique where active and passive circuit elements with carefully chosen values are configured in an impedance converter. During self-calibration, switching elements comprised in the self-calibration circuit may be toggled to create a servo loop comprising an amplifier within the circuit, with an attenuator and resistive component acting as feedback elements. The circuit may hence become an impedance gyrator and behave as a precision source with an impedance matching the input impedance of the load circuit.

    摘要: An attenuator circuit. The attenuator circuit includes a resistive divider coupled to a capacitive network including first and second capacitive dividers. The resistive divider is configured to perform an N:1 attenuation of a signal in a low frequency range. The first and second capacitive dividers are configured to perform an N:1 attenuation in the high frequency range that is a product of the attenuation provided by each (e.g., each performing an M:1 attenuation, where N=M×M, with the total attenuation of the capacitive dividers being N:1 where N=M×M). A variable capacitance divider is coupled in parallel with the second capacitive divider, and includes first and second variable capacitors that, when adjusted, change the high frequency attenuation of the attenuator circuit to match the value of the high frequency attenuation to that of the low frequency attenuation.

With a single resistive ladder network, attenuation control is achieved using a thermometer switching code. With multiple resistive ladder networks, coarse and fine attenuation control can be achieved using thermometer and bubble switching codes, respectively.

    摘要: A wide bandwidth attenuator input circuit for a measurement probe has a Z0 attenuator circuit coupled in series with a compensated RC attenuator circuit. The series attenuator elements of the Z0 and the compensated RC attenuator circuits are coupled via a controlled impedance transmission line to the shunt attenuator elements of the Z0 and the compensated RC attenuator circuits. The shunt element of the Z0 attenuator element terminates the transmission line in its characteristic impedance. The junction of the series and shunt attenuator elements are coupled to the input of a buffer amplifier. At low and intermediate frequencies, the compensated RC attenuator circuit attenuates an input signal while at high frequencies, the compensated RC attenuator circuit acts as a short and the Z0 attenuator circuits attenuates the input signal.

In one embodiment, a plurality of input pins are provided so as to connect to different points of the attenuation circuit. In a second embodiment, resistors within the attenuation circuit are selectively grounded to vary the amount of attenuation between the input pin and the output pin.

    摘要: An attenuated cable is formed with an in-line attenuator conducted between two cable lengths wherein the cable lengths are rigidly joined together by a rigid hollow housing which encloses the attenuator therein. The attenuator circuit is housed within the housing, and is electrically connected to the cable lengths without the use of mechanical connections therebetween. The free ends of the cable lengths farthest from the housing are provided with standard connectors for connecting the cable to additional electrical devices such as microphones, mixers or amplifiers. Since the housing and attenuator circuit are relatively small and light relative to the larger cable lengths, the attenuated cable has substantially the same weight and flexibility as a continuous length of cable.
