Abstract: A power supply apparatus according to the present invention includes a power supply antenna, a directivity control unit, a position information acquisition unit, and a control unit. The power supply antenna emits, to a plurality of power reception apparatuses, a radio wave that is based on a power supply signal. The directivity control unit controls directivity of the power supply antenna. The position information acquisition unit acquires position information indicating a position of a moving obstruction. The control unit determines, based on the position information, a power reception apparatus, among the plurality of power reception apparatuses, to which power is supplied while avoiding the obstruction. The control unit controls the directivity control unit to steer the radio wave toward the determined power reception apparatus.

Abstract: A power transfer device is a power transmitter (201) or a power receiver (205) conducting power transfer using an electromagnetic power transfer signal employing a repeating time frame comprising a power transfer time interval and an object detection time interval. A power transfer circuit (303, 307) comprises a power transfer coil (203, 207) receiving or generating the power transfer signal during the power transfer time intervals. A communicator (315, 323) communicates with the other device via an electromagnetic communication signal. A communication resonance circuit (317, 321) comprises a communication antenna (319, 325) for transmitting or receiving the electromagnetic communication signal. During the communication, the communication resonance circuit (317, 321) provides a resonance at a first resonance frequency to the communicator (315, 323). A controller (333, 335) adapts the communication resonance circuit to not provide the resonance at the first resonance frequency to the communicator during object detection time intervals. The approach may provide improved detection of resonance objects, such as smart cards (e.g. NFC cards).

Abstract: The power supply apparatus includes a power transmission apparatus configured to transmit power to a power reception apparatus of the vehicle by non-contact and a processor configured to control the power transmission apparatus, detect a pickup/dropoff operation at the vehicle when power is being supplied by non-contact from the power supply apparatus to the vehicle, and detect a number of surrounding vehicles being supplied with power by non-contact in a predetermined range at surroundings of the power supply apparatus. The processor is configured to decrease power transmitted from the power transmission apparatus to the power reception apparatus when detecting a pickup/dropoff operation, and determine an amount of decrease of the transmitted power based on the number of surrounding vehicles.

The power transmitter further includes an inverter circuit configured to receive a direct current (DC) power and convert the input power to a power signal and a coil configured to transmit the power signal to a power receiver, the coil formed of wound Litz wire and including at least one layer, the coil defining, at least, a top face.

Abstract: A power transmitting apparatus sets, on the basis of transmission power set with the power receiving apparatus, a first threshold for determining whether or not a foreign object exist, and a second threshold lower than the first threshold. The first and second threshold are set so that the difference between the first and second threshold values becomes larger as the set transmission power becomes larger. The power transmitting apparatus determines: that a foreign object exists in a case where the power loss is greater than the first threshold; that a foreign object does not exist in a case where the power loss is less than the second threshold; and that there is a possibility of a foreign object existing in a case where the power loss is between the first threshold and the second threshold.

Abstract: A system to detect obstacles includes a power beam transmission circuit, a power beam reception circuit arranged to receive a power beam from the power beam transmission circuit, an emitter module, and a detector module arranged to distinguish between a first characteristic and a second characteristic.
