An operating method in a vehicle having a menu of an operating structure displayed on a display surface arranged in the vehicle. The operating structure includes a main menu and additional menus. Inputs can be detected, by which a change of the displayed menu can be caused and by which switching elements of the menus can be actuated. A special switching element is displayed at the edge of the display surface which can be actuated by a swipe gesture and, if the swipe gesture associated with the special switching element has been detected, the main menu is displayed. Also disclosed is an operating device for performing the operating method.

The invention relates to a method for operating a touch-sensitive operator control system (10), particularly for an automobile, in which a pressure exerted with an object (18) on a touch-sensitive control panel (12) and a touch position at which the control panel (12) is touched with the object (18) are sensed, wherein if the sensed pressure is below a prescribed threshold value, the operator control system (10) is operated in a first mode of operation, in which a symbol (20) is displayed at a position on a display device (16) that corresponds to the sensed touch position, and if the sensed pressure is at least as great as the prescribed threshold value, the operator control system (10) is operated in a second mode of operation, in which a character (22) that corresponds to a sensed change in the touch position is displayed by means of the display device (16). Disclosed herein are a display apparatus for a vehicle, a vehicle with the display apparatus and a method of controlling the display apparatus. The display apparatus for a vehicle includes a display unit having a plurality of display regions to respectively display information thereon, and an input unit configured to receive a selection command to select one of the display regions. The display region selected according to the selection command is expanded to display detailed information, and the display region other than the selected display region displays brief information.

A terminal is provided with an input unit configured to detect contact of an object and a position of the object, and a controller configured to generate a control signal corresponding to a recognition of a gesture of the object, which is detected at a position spaced apart from the input unit when touched by the object. The terminal may allow an operation command desired by the user to be completed since a gesture is initiated at a surface of the terminal, and terminated at the surface of the terminal again after being performed in a space on the surface of the terminal. By specifying a start or an end of the gesture, the intention of the user may be clearly presented and may improve the recognition rate. Therefore, the user may easily manipulate mobile phones and various equipments while driving.

An operating interface comprising a touch-sensitive display element and at least one sensor formed to display information to a user on the display element to register touching of the display element with a touch element by the user and to register the presence of the touch element in a recognition region, the recognition region adjoining a side of the display element which faces the user. The interface also includes a control circuit formed to control the display element so the display element reproduces information facilitating operation of the operating interface on the display element when the touch element is located in the recognition region for a predetermined period of time without touching of the display element being registered during that time.

A display apparatus of a vehicle for providing various kinds of information includes a touchscreen unit to display at least one of a screen of an external manipulation mode and a screen of a touch manipulation mode, and a sensing unit to sense approach of an object to the touchscreen unit. The touchscreen unit displays the screen of the touch manipulation mode when the sensing unit senses approach of the object, and displays the screen of the external manipulation mode when the sensing unit does not sense approach of the object.

Abstract:
Methods and systems for a configurable vehicle dash display are provided. Specifically, a configurable dash may comprise one or more displays that are capable of receiving input from a user. At least one of these displays may be configured to present a plurality of custom applications that, when manipulated by at least one user, are adapted to control and/or monitor functions associated with a vehicle and/or associated peripheral devices. It is anticipated that the function and appearance of the plurality of custom applications may be altered via user and/or processor input.
