Abstract: Certain aspects of the present disclosure relate to methods and apparatus for improving voice over new radio (VoNR)-to-voice over long term evolution (VoLTE). An example method generally includes communicating with and camping on a next generation node B (gNB) in a 5G new radio (NR) system; initiating a voice call with the gNB; receiving a 5G NR-to-long term evolution (LTE) handover command in response to initiating the voice call; performing a handover procedure in response to the handover command; detecting a failure in the handover procedure; and taking one or more actions in response to detecting the failure in the handover procedure.

Abstract: A user equipment (UE) expedites cell reselection by reselecting a neighbor cell prior to call setup. In one instance, the UE measures a signal quality of a serving cell and a signal quality of the neighbor cell. The UE starts a reselection timer for reselecting the neighbor cell based on the measured signal quality of the serving cell and the measured signal quality of the neighbor cell. The UE reselects the neighbor cell prior to a scheduled expiration of the reselection timer.

Abstract: Wireless communications systems and methods related to improving user equipment (UE) mobility performance are provided. A wireless communication device camps on a first cell operating on a first carrier frequency. The wireless communication device receives, from the first cell, cell selection priority information indicating a priority for each of a plurality of carrier frequencies. The wireless communication device evaluates each of two or more candidate cells over an evaluation time duration associated with each candidate cell, wherein an end time of the evaluation time duration of a candidate cell associated with a lower priority carrier frequency is configured to be after an end time of the evaluation time duration of a candidate cell associated with a higher priority carrier frequency. The first wireless communication device selects a second cell from the two or more candidate cells for camping based at least in part on the evaluation of the second cell.

A user equipment (UE) may receive, from a base station, control signaling for communications in a wireless communications system. The control signaling may indicate a first duration for an inactivity timer. The UE may initiate the inactivity timer and a second timer based on identifying a period of inactivity. The second timer may have a second duration that is shorter than the first duration for the inactivity timer. In some examples, the second duration may be based on one or more parameters, such as a display status, a battery status, a scaling factor, the first duration, an application state, or any combination thereof. The UE may release a connection for the communications in the wireless communications system based on an expiration of the second timer, an expiration of the inactivity timer, or a combination thereof.

A user equipment (UE) may receive an indication of a subcarrier offset for a system information block (SIB). The SIB may be for a cell of a wireless communications network. The cell may be in accordance with a radio access technology. The UE may determine, based on the subcarrier offset for the SIB, whether the cell is configured as an SA cell or as an NSA cell for the radio access technology. The UE may communicate via the wireless communications network based on whether the cell is configured as an SA cell or as an NSA cell.

Exposure limits may be based on maximum permissible exposure (MPE) limits of millimeter wave transmissions and may be determined at a user equipment (UE) and provided to a base station. If the UE receives an uplink grant for a transmission in which an associated uplink transmission would exceed the exposure limits, the UE may drop the uplink transmission prior to forming a transport block, transmit control signaling to the base station to indicate the exposure limits at the UE, or combinations thereof.
