Abstract: Methods and systems for wireless communication are provided. In one example, a method comprises: receiving, by a mobile device, a radio beam, the radio beam being a directional beam that propagates along an angle of departure with respect to an antenna that transmits the radio beam; identifying, by the mobile device, at least one of: the radio beam or a base station that operates the antenna; determining, by the mobile device, a position of the mobile device based on identifying at least one of the radio beam or the antenna of the base station; and outputting, by the mobile device, the position of the mobile device.

Abstract: Bandwidth Parts (BWPs) are used for the transmission and measurement of positioning reference signals during a positioning session. A location server may obtain relevant BWP information, such as the active BWP or a list of configured BWPs, from one or more base stations and/or the user equipment (UE) for the positioning session. The location server may provide assistance data to the UE that is determined based on the BWP information, so that the UE may measure PRS signals from intra-frequency base stations. The location server may further determine a preferred BWP or prohibited BWPs, which may be forwarded to the serving base station to control the BWPs that are used during the positioning session.

Abstract: Techniques to support emergency voice-over-Internet Protocol (VoIP) calls are described. The techniques may be used for various 3GPP and 3GPP2 networks, various location architectures, and various types of User Equipment (UE). A UE communicates with a visited network to send a request to establish an emergency VoIP call. The UE interacts with a location server instructed by the visited network to obtain a first position estimate for the UE. The UE performs call setup via the visited network to establish the emergency VoIP call with a PSAP, which may be selected based on the first position estimate. The UE may thereafter perform positioning with the location server to obtain an updated position estimate for the UE, e.g., if requested by the PSAP.

Abstract: Techniques are discussed herein for enabling an external client to request periodic or triggered location of a user equipment (UE) according to trigger criteria that are not visible to entities within a wireless network, using a codeword in a periodic and triggered location request that is sent to the UE. The codeword may be meaningful to the UE, but not to the wireless network, and may indicate particular types of triggered and/or periodic events to be detected and reported by the UE. A location report sent by the UE to the wireless network may contain a second codeword, indicating a type of triggered or periodic event detected by the UE, which may be conveyed by the wireless network to the external client without interpretation. Codewords may enable more flexibility for periodic and triggered location without impacting wireless networks.

Abstract: Disclosed are techniques for supporting multiple configurations of reference signals for OTDOA positioning in a wireless network. In an aspect, a UE sends to a location server, a message indicating reference signal characteristics supported by the UE, where the reference signal characteristics include a UE supported reference signal bandwidth. The UE then receives from the location server, positioning assistance data including reference signal configuration parameters for each cell of a plurality of cells transmitting reference signals according to the UE supported reference signal bandwidth. The UE may then perform positioning measurements for one or more of the plurality of cells transmitting the reference signals based on the reference signal configuration parameters for each cell of the plurality of cells.

Abstract: Techniques to support positioning for access points and terminals in WLANs and other wireless networks are described. In one aspect, WLAN positioning is supported with Secure User Plane Location (SUPL). A terminal obtains measurements for an access point in a WLAN and/or receives measurements made by the access point for the terminal. The terminal determines WLAN AP information for the access point and/or the terminal based on the measurements and sends the WLAN AP information to a SUPL Location Platform (SLP). The SLP determines a location estimate for the terminal based on the WLAN AP information. In another aspect, the terminal receives supported network information from the SLP. The terminal obtains network measurement information (e.g., measurements) for a radio access network and determines which particular network measurement information to send based on the supported network information. The terminal sends network measurement information permitted by the supported network information to the SLP.

Abstract: Disclosed are techniques for determining a distance (or range) between a first wireless entity and a second wireless entity. In an aspect, the first wireless entity transmits a first positioning reference signaling (PRS) signal to the second wireless entity at a first time, where the first PRS signal is received by the second wireless entity at a second time, and receives a second PRS signal from the second wireless entity at a third time, where the second PRS signal is transmitted by the second wireless entity at a fourth time. The first wireless entity enables the distance to be determined by a location computing entity, for example, by a location server, based on the first, second, third, and fourth times. The first wireless entity may be a mobile device or a base station and the second wireless entity may be the other of the mobile device or base station.
