Abstract: A method for handling the joining and leaving an MBS session via a PDU session establishment or modification procedure is provided. Upon receipt of a back-off timer in the Received MBS Container IE (with the operation/decision “MBS join is rejected” or “Remove UE from the MBS session”), the UE shall associate the MBS back-off timer with the MBS session ID (e.g., TMGI). If the timer value is neither zero nor deactivated, the UE should not request to join the MBS session with the same MBS session ID before the timer expiry. If the timer value is deactivated, the UE should not request to join the MBS session with the same MBS session ID until the UE is switched off, the USIM is removed, an entry in the “list of subscriber data” for the current SNPN is updated, or an event/notification is triggered by the network.

Abstract: A method for handling a collision of a UE-requested PDU session establishment procedure and a network-requested PDU session modification procedure is proposed. When a PDU SESSION ESTABLISHMENT REQUEST message indicates that the UE-requested PDU session establishment request procedure is to handover an existing PDU session between 5G 3GPP access and 5G non-3GPP access, UE and NW proceed with the UE-requested PDU session establishment procedure and abort the NW-requested PDU session modification procedure. When a PDU SESSION ESTABLISHMENT REQUEST message indicates that the UE-requested PDU session establishment request procedure is to establish user plane resources for an MA PDU session, UE and NW proceed with both the UE-requested PDU session establishment procedure and the NW-requested PDU session modification procedure.

Abstract: A method of handling PDU session identity (PSI) mismatch for PDU session procedures is proposed. In case a user equipment (UE) receives a 5G session management (5GSM) message in which the PSI value indicates that the PDU session is in 5GSM state PDU SESSION INACTIVE, the UE stays in its current 5GSM state for the PDU session and responds with a 5GSM status message including a 5GSM cause #43 “Invalid PDU session identity” to reduce signaling and UE handling effort. In case the UE receives a 5GSM message in which the PSI value is a reserved or an assigned value, the UE stays in its current 5GSM state for the PDU session and ignores the 5GSM message to reduce signaling.

Abstract: A method of handling mapped Evolved Packet System (EPS) bearer context for invalid QoS flow description is proposed. During a PDU session establishment procedure or a PDU session modification procedure, a UE may receive a mapped EPS bearer context IE for creating a new mapped EPS bearer of a PDU session. If there is no corresponding QoS flow description associated to the new mapped EPS bearer, e.g., if there is no corresponding authorized QoS flow description IE in the PDU session establishment accept message or in the PDU session modification command message, then the UE should send another PDU session modification request message to the network to delete the new mapped EPS bearer context.

Abstract: A method at enhanced error handling for 5G QoS operations is proposed. A PDU session defines the association between the UE and the data network that provides a PDU connectivity service. Each PDU session is identified by a PDU session ID, and may include multiple QoS flows and QoS rules. Within a PDU session, there should be one and only one default QoS rule. The default QoS rule indication (DQR) and the QoS flow identifier (QFI) of QoS rule should not be changed. When the QoS operation carried by the command message is “Modify existing QoS rule and delete packet filters”, then it is defined as a semantic error in the QoS operation if all the packet filters of a QoS rule are deleted, and the QoS rule is a QoS rule of a PDU session of IPv4, IPv6, IPv4v6, or Ethernet PDU session type.

Abstract: A method for Procedure Transaction Identity (PTI) exception handling on protocol data unit (PDU) session modification and establishment procedure is proposed. If the UE receives a PDU SESSION ESTABLISHMENT ACCEPT or REJECT message in which the PTI value is an assigned value that does not match any PTI in use, the UE responds with a 5GSM STATUS message including 5GSM cause #47 “PTI mismatch”, and the network will send another ACCEPT or REJECT message with the correct PTI value.

Abstract: A method of enhanced error handling for 5G QoS operations associated with a PDU session is proposed. A QoS operation can be received via a PDU session modification procedure. In one example, the QoS operation is to create a new QoS rule for a PDU session, however, there is an existing QoS rule having the same QoS rule ID (QRI). The UE detects whether the QoS operation will causing the PDU session have no default QoS rule or have more than one default QoS rules. If the existing QoS rule is a default QoS rule, or if the new QoS rule have a default QoS rule (DQR) indication bit set to be true, then the UE rejects the QoS operation and indicates a QoS operation error to the network.
