摘要: A parallax barrier comprises a plurality of parallel vertical apertures or apertures. In a direction transverse to the apertures, the apertures have an optical transmission function which comprises a plurality of sub-apertures so that the function varies in this direction. In general, the function is constant in a direction parallel to the apertures or apertures. Such a barrier may be used with a spatial light modulator such as a liquid crystal display to form an autostereoscopic 3D display.

摘要: An optical device includes an encoding surface having a micro-relief pattern (22) over at least part thereof designed to produce a predetermined diffracted first image when illuminated in use, and an optically anisotropic layer (26) such as a polymerized liquid crystal provided whereby at least part of the micro-relief pattern (22) induces local orientation of the optically anisotropic layer (26) thereby to impose a predetermined polarization modulation, thereby to produce a predetermined polarization dependent second image when illuminated in use.

摘要: This invention relates to the discovery of a novel endophytic fungus, Muscodor albus, which produces volatile antibiotics that have been shown to be effective in the treatment of human and animal waste products. Through experimentation, this invention confirms that Muscodor albus can be used in disposable bags in connection with portable toilets to solve the problem of degradation of waste products in situations where humans are removed from sanitary facilities. This invention includes the discovery of non-volatile inhibitors that are also produced by Muscodor albus and that are similarly effective in treating human and animal wastes. This invention covers a unique and novel method for preparing Muscodor albus for commercial use in the treatment of human and animal wastes, which involves infesting barley seeds with Muscodor albus and then storing them under conditions that will allow the fungus to remain viable for up to nine months.

摘要: The present invention relates to isolated strains of a Streptomyces spp. which are endophytes of dicotyledonous plants and to methods for selecting such strains. The present invention also relates to a biologically active compound called coronamycin obtained from endophytic Streptomycetes isolated from higher plants. The present invention further relates to compositions of such compounds and to methods of protecting plants against attack by a plant pathogen and methods of inhibiting bacterial growth, fungal growth, viral infection, growth of parasitic organisms, and cancer cell growth with such compositions.

摘要: A method of detecting a face-like region of a colour image, comprises reducing the resolution of the colour image by averaging the saturation to form a reduced resolution image and searching for a region of the reduced resolution image. The searched region has, in a predetermined shape, a substantially uniform saturation which is substantially different from the saturation of the portion of the reduced resolution image surrounding the predetermined shape.

摘要: A three-dimensional display comprises a spatial light modulator (13), such as a liquid crystal display, sandwiched between first and second lenticular screens (12, 16). The pitch of the lenticules of the second screen (16) is an integral multiple of that of the first screen (12). The spatial light modulator (13) comprises a plurality of cells aligned with the lenticules of the first screen (12). A linear array of sequentially illuminated light sources (1-8) is focused by an optical system (10) into a plurality of collimated light beams with different angles of incidence on the first screen (12). For each illumination of the light sources, the spatial light modulator carries a plurality of 2D interlaced views.

摘要: An auto stereoscopic 3D display comprises a hybrid sandwich comprising a first lenticular screen, a spatial light modulator, a diffuser, and second lenticular screen. A plurality of light sources produce in turn divergent light beams which are modulated by the modulator with two interlaced views. The hybrid sandwich projects the views in different directions towards an observer. The different 2D views are thus visible from directions corresponding to the directions in which the views were captured during recording of a 3D image. Each eye of the observer sees a single view across the whole of the display.
