Abstract: A method for delivering surgical material comprises inserting a delivery device into an anatomic area, coupling a surgical material delivery system to the delivery device, the surgical material delivery system having a reservoir of surgical material, positioning an anatomic electrode relative to the anatomic area, applying a first charge to the anatomic electrode, dispensing surgical material from the delivery device, applying a second charge to surgical material leaving the delivery device opposite the first charge, and delivering charged surgical material to the anatomic area proximate the anatomic electrode via a directional-oriented electrostatic field. A surgical system comprises an insertion shaft comprising a passageway and a discharge opening, a first electrode connected to the insertion shaft configured to impart electrical charge to surgical material flowing through the passageway, and a second electrode connected to the insertion shaft configured to impart electrical charge to tissue in contact with the second electrode.

Abstract: A rotatable surgical instrument, system, and method includes an outer tubular member and an inner tubular member contained, at least in part, within the outer tubular member and configured to rotate relative to the outer tubular member. A distal tip is coupled to and configured to rotate with the inner tubular member, the distal tip forming a channel around a portion of the distal tip. A bearing is rotatably positioned within the channel, wherein the channel inhibits radial and axial movement of the bearing, with respect to the distal tip, along a major axis of the outer tubular member and inner tubular member, and wherein the bearing is configured to inhibit deflection of the distal tip from the major axis.

Abstract: A sizing device configured to measure a dimension of a lumen in a patient can include an elongated member, an extendable assembly, and an actuation mechanism. The elongated member can be insertable into the patient and define a lumen extending from a proximal end to a distal end. The extendable assembly can be insertable into the lumen. The extendable assembly can include elements that can have a shape-set memory bias. The shape-set memory bias can be configured to allow the elements to extend radially outward from a central axis of the elongated member. The actuation mechanism can be operably coupled to the extendable assembly and can be configured to move the elements between a retracted position and a plurality of deployed positions.

Abstract: A handheld surgical instrument having a handpiece and a shaft extending from the handpiece is provided. The instrument includes a cutting implement disposed at a distal end of the shaft and an articulation portion disposed proximate to the cutting implement. The articulation portion includes a set of first slits and a set of second slits opposite the first set of slits. The articulation portion also has first and second passageways disposed in the slits along with first and second flat pull wires disposed in the passageways. The instrument also has an articulation control assembly that includes an articulator having first and second anchor points coupled with the first and second flat pull wires. The articulator moves the first flat pull wire in a first direction and moves the second flat pull wire in a second direction opposite the first direction during actuation.

A method of identifying biological matter comprises engaging a medical device sensor with biological matter in a bile duct, electrically analyzing biological matter with the sensor to identify an electrical parameter, identifying biological matter from a liver, pancreas or gall bladder from the electrical parameter, and outputting indicia of the biological matter to a user of the medical device.

Abstract: A device having a hub assembly and a lever coupled with the hub assembly is provided. The device includes a sheath coupled with the lever and extending from the hub assembly. The sheath has a surgical elevator with a surgical elevator edge along with a hypotube having an access hole. The device has a shaver blade assembly with an outer shaft having an outer blade and an inner blade within the outer blade. The outer shaft has a stop and an access hole near the outer and inner blades. The sheath partially surrounds the outer shaft and the lever moves between a first position and a second position. In the first position, the surgical elevator edge abuts the outer shaft stop and the outer shaft access hole aligns with the hypotube access hole. In the second position, the surgical elevator edge is spaced apart from the outer shaft stop.
