Abstract: Apparatus, systems, and methods to implement receive beamforming in communication systems are described. In one example, apparatus of an evolved Node B (eNB) comprising processing circuitry to receive, from a user equipment (UE), a beamforming reference signal received power (BRS-RP) measurement and in response to the BRS-RP measurement, configure a downlink (DL) transmit (Tx) beamforming and a receiving (Rx) beamforming process on the UE. Other examples are also disclosed and claimed.

Abstract: Devices for and methods of synchronous beam refinement using a beam refinement reference signal (BRRS) are generally described. In one example embodiment, a UE receives BRRS information indicating switching of a Tx beam. The UE then uses this information to switch an associated Rx beam. In some embodiments, timing information is used to match the switching times. In some embodiments. DCI and CSI-RS operations are used to determine switching for the synchronous beam refinement.

Abstract: Embodiments of an Evolved Node-B (eNB), User Equipment (UE), and methods for flexible duplex communication are generally described herein. The eNB may transmit a downlink control information (DCI) block to the UE during a group of time-division duplex (TDD) sub-frames. The eNB may further receive an uplink control information (UCI) block from the UE during the group of TDD sub-frames. A first candidate flexible duplex format for the TDD sub-frames may include a downlink control portion and an uplink control portion. A second candidate flexible duplex format for the TDD sub-frames may include a downlink control portion and may exclude uplink control portions.

Abstract: Embodiments of a User Equipment (UE), an Evolved Node-B (eNB), and methods for communication of uplink messages are generally described herein. The UE may receive, from an eNB, one or more downlink control messages that may indicate an allocation of PUCCH channel resources. The UE may transmit an uplink control message in at least a portion of the allocated PUCCH channel resources. When the PUCCH channel resources are allocated according to an edge configuration, the PUCCH channel resources may be restricted to a lower edge portion and an upper edge portion of the network channel resources. When the PUCCH channel resources are allocated according to a distributed configuration, the PUCCH channel resources may include one or more middle portions of the network channel resources. The middle portions may be exclusive to the lower edge and upper edge portions.

Abstract: Methods and apparatus are described for transmitting uplink control information (UCI) over an OFDMA-based uplink. In some embodiments, UCI symbols are mapped to resource elements (REs) in the time/frequency resource grid to maximize frequency diversity. In some embodiments, UCI is mapped in a manner that takes into account channel estimation performance by mapping UCI symbols to those REs that are closest (in terms of OFDM subcarriers/symbols) to REs that carry reference signals.

Abstract: Various embodiments are generally directed to improved channel quality information feedback techniques. In one embodiment, for example, an apparatus for a base station is provided that includes a radio interface and a processor coupled to the radio interface. The processor is configured to receive a channel quality indicator (CQI) index, wherein the CQI index is based on a channel state information (CSI) reference resource, further wherein a first three orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM) symbols of the CSI reference resource are occupied by control signals, select a modulation and coding scheme (MCS) for a physical downlink shared channel (PDSCH) based on the CQI index, and cause transmission of the PDSCH based on the selected MCS via the radio interface. Abstract: Codebook designs are disclosed for full-dimensional multiple-input-multiple output (FD-MIMO) wireless cellular systems. The FD-MIMO cookbooks employ channel state information reference signals (CSI-RS). The codebook designs are used in beamforming CSI-RSs by the enhanced nodeB (eNB), where the CSI-RS is sent to the user equipment (UE), enabling the UE to perform channel estimation. The codebooks support beam selection, co-phasing between polarizations, and beam combining.
