Techniques are provided in which advertisements are presented to a user via access to electronic reading content. A first set of information is obtained regarding electronic reading content evidenced as being accessed by the user. A second set of information is obtained pertaining to a particular user. Using both sets of information, advertising targeting parameters are generated to target the user with one or more advertisements by inserting the advertisements within Based at least in part on the targeting parameters, the user is targeted with at least one advertisement via inserting the advertisement within the electronic reading content.

A method and apparatus for scroll pattern recognition is provided. First content is provided to an application with a scrolling interface and a display window. The application is configured to display a portion of the first content to a user based on a current display position, where the scrolling interface is configured to change the current display position based on input from the user. User interaction data that includes scroll data is obtained. The occurrence of an actionable event based on the user interaction data is determined. Second content is provided to the application based on the actionable event.

Techniques are described herein for enhancing the ranking products using purchase day based time windows. A purchase day based time window is a time window that is defined to include purchase days selected from a series of consecutive days. A purchase day is a day on which a product associated with the time window is purchased. The series of consecutive days includes the purchase days intermixed with non-purchase day(s). A non-purchase day is a day on which the product associated with the time window is not purchased. The purchase day based time window is further defined to not include the non-purchase day(s).

A method for processing query data is described that includes receiving a query portion from a client over a network. For each of multiple search contexts, a relevance score is determined, based on the query portion. Each search context corresponds to a different set of information against which queries can be executed. Indication of the relevance scores is provided to the client over the network. Determining the relevance score and providing indication are performed prior to an input indicating a complete query or in response thereto. The method may also include associating shortcuts with search contexts, selecting a set of shortcuts based, at least in part, on the relevance scores for the search contexts and the association between the shortcuts and search contexts, and sending the set of shortcuts to the client. The shortcuts include links for accessing a content location associated with the shortcut.

One or more messages may be selected and grouped and one or more group-level actions may be initiated for the group, such that the group-level action is performed on each message in the group. Each message in a group shares the at least one attribute value. A messaging user interface may comprise a listing of the set of messages and a message group display portion that displays one or more message groups and a group-level toolbar comprising a selectable indicator for each group-level action. A message, or messages, shown in a message list portion of the user interface may be selected from the message list based on similarity of the message(s) to previously selected messages, and the selected message(s) may be grouping based on shared attribute values. The messages belonging to a group may be modified in the same way via a single action taken on the group.

In one example, at least one first type of metric computed based on a first period associated with a first length of time is measured for each of a plurality of users. At least one second type of metric computed based on a second period associated with a second length of time is measured for each of the plurality of users. The second length of time is larger than the first length of time. Correlations between each of the at least one first type of metric and each of the at least one second type of metrics are computed with respect to the plurality of users. A target metric is identified from the at least one first type of metric based on the correlations. The target metric is correlated with the at least one second type of metric.

The method for analyzing a linguistic input may include receiving the linguistic input, the linguistic input including at least one word, accessing prestored language data for a language corresponding to the linguistic input, converting the linguistic input into a text-possibility representations based on the received language data, determining a meaning of the text possibility based on the prestored language data, generating at least one semantic structure corresponding to the determined meaning, and determining an action to perform based on the generated at least one semantic structure. The prestored language data may be converted from multiple formats into one or more formats that can be algorithmically processed by a computational device.
