Abstract: An entity in a wireless network is configured to increase transmission of a positioning reference signal (PRS) at each of a plurality of transmitters, where the increase in transmission of PRS at each of the plurality of transmitters is coordinated to avoid interference to or from non-PRS transmission in the wireless network. The increase in the transmission of PRS may be performed by a server, such as a location management function (LMF) or location management component (LMC), a base station, such as a gNB, ng-eNB, or eNB, or by a combination of the server and base station. The entity may determine the increase in transmission of the PRS in response to location requests for a plurality of user equipments (UEs), notification reports from a plurality of base stations, or requests for increased PRS from a plurality of UEs.

Abstract: A wireless network including user equipment (UE) and base stations is configured to perform position determination with low latency and synchronized to a common time within a wireless network. The UE and base stations are configured to perform positioning measurements at a specific time point or within a window around the time point in a measurement period. The time point may be relative to a timing event within the wireless network, such as the beginning or end of a positioning reference signal window or a specific message in a layer 1 or layer 2 transmission. A location server may be provided with the positioning measurements or a position estimate from the UE and provide the position estimate to an external client within the measurement period.

Abstract: Embodiments described herein provide means by which a civic location of a target mobile device may be determined using crowdsourced information from other mobile devices. The information can include information regarding Access Points (APs) and/or other access nodes obtained by the other mobile devices, as well as respective locations of the other mobile devices. A server, for example, can use this information to determine a coverage heatmap for each AP. Coverage heatmaps can be used, along with civic location information, to determine a civic location of a target mobile device based on the target mobile device's detection and possible measurements of wireless signals from one or more of the APs.

Abstract: A RAN location server function (e.g. for 5G New Radio), referred to as Location Management Component (LMC), may be included in a gNB and connected to a gNB Central Unit (gNB-CU). The gNB-CU may receive a location request for a UE (e.g. from an AMF) and may initiate a location session for the UE, including selecting an LMC for the location session. The gNB-CU may handover the UE to a new serving gNB during the location session. The LMC for the location session may then remain unchanged after the handover or may be changed to a new LMC to suit the new serving gNB. The location session may then continue using the original LMC if not changed or the new LMC if changed.

Abstract: Disclosed are techniques for determining round-trip time (RTT) of a user equipment (UE). In an aspect, each gNodeB in a plurality of gNodeB s measure signaling data related to an uplink RTT reference signal received from the UE and the downlink RTT reference signal transmitted by each gNodeB. The signaling data comprises one of a processing delay between a time of arrival (TOA) of the uplink RTT reference signal and a time of transmission (TOT) of the downlink RTT reference signal or a total RTT between the TOT of the downlink RTT reference signal and the TOA of the uplink RTT reference signal. The signaling data is sent to a single entity, other than the UE, e.g., another gNodeB or a location server, where signaling data relevant to the UE is aggregated. The aggregated signaling data may be sent to the UE to determine the RTT for the UE or used by the location server to determine the RTT for the UE.

Abstract: Methods and techniques are described for supporting location services for a user equipment (UE) in a Fifth Generation wireless network in which a base station, such as a gNB or ng-eNB, broadcasts a Positioning Reference Signal (PRS) in a plurality of different directions and at a plurality of different times. A PRS muting configuration is used in which PRS is muted using a time based and angle based pattern to prevent interference between beams transmitted by other base stations and/or to prevent interference between beams transmitted simultaneously by a single base station. The time based and angle based muting pattern, for example, may provide an indication for each direction in the plurality of different directions and for each time in the plurality of different times and as to whether the PRS is transmitted or muted by the base station.

Abstract: Methods and techniques are described for limiting a size of LTE Positioning Protocol (LPP) messages in a location session between a user equipment and location server. In one embodiment, a first device sends a first LPP message to a second device, indicating that the first device is capable of receiving segmented LPP messages. Subsequently, the first device receives a plurality of LPP message segments from the second device comprising one or more non-final LPP message segments and a final LPP message segment, where each LPP message segment includes a “non-final” or “final” indication. The first device stores the non-final LPP message segments and processes the LPP message segments after receiving the final LPP message segment. Prior to sending the first LPP message, the first device may receive an LPP message from the second device indicating the second device is capable of sending segmented LPP messages.

The LMF may determine a location for the UE based on the location information.

In an aspect, a radio access network (RAN) entity or a user equipment (UE) provides, to a core network entity, an enhanced cell global identifier (CGI), where the enhanced CGI includes at least one field representing a location of the UE. Based on the enhanced CGI, the core network entity determines a location of the UE, and may provide a service to the UE based on the location. A core network may also provide an enhanced CGI to a RAN, e.g., to support wireless emergency alerting to UEs.
