Abstract: A vehicle includes an electric motor, a fuel cell, and a fuel cell thermal management system. A control system of the vehicle is configured to operate the fuel cell and the fuel cell thermal management system according to different modes. The modes include an acoustic signature mode in which an acoustic signature of the vehicle is reduced, a thermal signature mode in which a thermal signature of the vehicle is reduced, an acoustic and thermal signature mode in which both the acoustic signature and the thermal signature of the vehicle are reduced, a mission mode in which the vehicle is a node of a mesh network of other vehicles, and an optimized efficiency mode in which the fuel cell and the fuel cell thermal management system are controlled based on ambient conditions.

Abstract: A propulsion system including: a fuel cell assembly comprising a fuel cell, the fuel cell defining an outlet positioned to remove output products from the fuel cell and a fuel cell assembly operating condition; a combustion section that includes a combustor configured to receive a flow of aviation fuel from the aircraft fuel supply and further configured to receive the output products from the fuel cell; and a controller comprising memory and one or more processors, the memory storing instructions that when executed by the one or more processors cause the propulsion system to perform operations including: determining data indicative of at least one of an enthalpy or a composition of the output products from the fuel cell; and modifying the flow of aviation fuel from the aircraft fuel supply to the combustor based on the at least one of the enthalpy or the composition of the output products.

The fuel cell system includes a source of fuel and a fuel desulfurization system fluidly coupled to the source of fuel to receive the fuel in a liquid phase. The fuel desulfurization system includes a vacuum system that depressurizes the fuel to convert at least a portion of the fuel from the liquid phase to a gaseous phase. The fuel cell system also includes a fuel cell stack fluidly coupled to the fuel desulfurization system to receive fuel from the fuel desulfurization system in the gaseous phase.

Abstract: A fuel cell system includes a control unit that detects an abnormality of a flow dividing valve provided in a bypass channel for an oxidation gas by using a detected opening degree detected by a valve opening degree detection sensor that detects the opening degree of the flow dividing valve. When the detected abnormality is an opening abnormality that is failure to open and the flow dividing valve can close, the control unit sends a closing command for making the opening degree smaller than a current opening degree to a valve driving motor. Either when the detected abnormality is a closing abnormality that is failure to close and the flow dividing valve can open or when the detected abnormality is an opening-closing abnormality that is failure both to close and to open, the control unit sends a maintaining command for maintaining the opening degree to the valve driving motor.
