    Abstract: In a pressurized water reactor (PWR), emergency core cooling (ECC) responds to depressurization due to a vessel penetration break at the top of the pressure vessel by draining water from a body of water through an injection line into the pressure vessel. A barrier operates concurrently with the ECC to suppress flow of liquid water from the pressure vessel out the vessel penetration break. The barrier may comprise one or more of: (1) an injection line extension passing through the central riser to drain water into the central riser; (2) openings in a lower portion of a central riser to shunt some upward flow from the central riser into a lower portion of the downcomer annulus; and (3) a surge line providing fluid communication between a pressurizer volume at the top of the pressure vessel and the remainder of the pressure vessel which directs water outboard toward the downcomer annulus.

    Abstract: An in-core instrumentation system for a reactor module includes a plurality of in-core instruments connected to a containment vessel and a reactor pressure vessel at least partially located within the containment vessel. A reactor core is housed within a lower head that is removably attached to the reactor pressure vessel, and lower ends of the in-core instruments are located within the reactor core. The in-core instruments are configured such that the lower ends are concurrently removed from the reactor core as a result of removing the lower head from the reactor pressure vessel.

    Abstract: The power plant system includes a molten salt reactor assembly, a thermocline unit, phase change heat exchangers, and process heat systems. The thermocline unit includes an insulated tank, an initial inlet, a plurality of zone outlets, and a plurality of gradient zones corresponding to each zone outlet and being stacked in the tank. Each gradient zone has a molten salt portion at a portion temperature corresponding to the molten salt supply from the molten salt reactor being stored in the tank and stratified. The molten salt portions at higher portion temperatures generate thermal energy for process heat systems that require higher temperatures, and molten salt portions at lower portion temperatures generate thermal energy for process heat systems that require lower temperatures. The system continuously pumps the molten salt supply in controlled rates to deliver the heat exchange fluid supply to perform work in the corresponding particular process heat system.

    Abstract: An electrical penetration assembly for a nuclear reactor vessel, mountable in an aperture of a nuclear reactor vessel, includes a penetration body including first and second ends to be positioned, respectively, inside and outside the vessel; a sealed electrical connector providing a first seal for the electrical penetration assembly, the sealed connector insulating the penetration body at the first end; a feed-through carrier flange having a plurality of unitary electrical feed-throughs, each unitary feed-through allowing a single electrical conductor to pass therethrough, thereby ensuring continuity of the electrical connections, each unitary feed-through being individually insulated by an individual insulator providing a second seal, the unitary feed-throughs insulating the penetration body at the second end; and an anti-ejection device formed by the engagement between a narrowed portion provided at each unitary feed-through and a shoulder that is larger than the narrowed portion and provided on each of the electrical conductors.
