A multiple frequency RF communications receiver is disclosed which permits greater integration on standard silicon chips and consumes less power than previous receivers. A new method for selecting the various frequency bands with a high amount of isolation and low power consumption is described. The first filer network generates an oscillating signal through the use of a generated negative resistance and provides the oscillating signal while filtering out unwanted signals. The second filter network receives the time varying input signal and the oscillating signal and provides a mixed output while preventing the transmission of oscillations at the oscillating signal frequency. A mixer is disclosed that includes first and second transconductance modules that, in one embodiment, includes MOSFETs configured to receive a plurality of signals that are to be mixed and a selectively coupled auxiliary current source to inject an auxiliary current into the second transconductance module approximately at or near a zero-crossing point in order to reduce flicker noise and other noise introduced into an output signal during switching. Accordingly, as a first transconductance module approaches a zero-crossing, auxiliary current is injected to reduce the current produced therefrom thereby reducing flicker noise. In a differential mixer, the amount of current produced from a transistor pair to which the signal cycle is being switched is also reduced thereby reducing noise from the transistor pair that is turning on for the next portion of a signal cycle.

Radio equipment including a characteristic compensator for compensating for an orthogonality error of a mixer with low consumption power is disclosed. In radio equipment, an orthogonal detector converts a received real signal into a complex reception signal of an intermediate frequency. Further, when a complex reception signal converted into a digital signal by A/D converters includes a desired signal (quasi-desired signal), which includes an image signal of a non-desired signal, and a non-desired signal (preparatory desired signal), which includes an image signal of a desired signal, a frequency of the quasi-desired signal is frequency-converted to a signal closer to a direct current component by a frequency converter and a frequency of the preparatory desired signal is frequency-converted to a signal closer to a direct current component by a frequency converter. A decimator respectively performs a filtering and a down-sampling on the frequency-converted quasi-desired signal and preparatory desired signal. A characteristic compensator 7 suppresses the image signal of the non-desired signal included in an inputted quasi-desired signal by means of a complex codomain signal of an inputted preparatory desired signal.
