The device includes a resonator block having a groove at at least one side of the resonator block, wherein the groove comprises at least a first inclined surface and a second inclined surface and is configured to contact the test sample via the first inclined surface and/or the second inclined surface. In this regard, the resonator block is configured to generate a rotational electric field coupled between the first inclined surface and the second inclined surface of the groove and further to propagate the rotational electric field partially or fully through the test sample in order to perform dielectric material characterization of the test sample.

    摘要: An optical phase-shifting device includes a ribbed waveguide portion on an insulating layer, the waveguide portion having a p-n or p-i-n junction extending in a longitudinal direction and having a height. A pair of slab portions are disposed adjacent the waveguide portion, one on each side of the ribbed waveguide portion and on the insulation layer. The slab portion have higher doping concentrations than the respective doping concentrations in the ribbed waveguide portion. At least a portion of each slab portion has a height increasing with distance from the waveguide portion, with the slab height being smaller than that of the waveguide portion at the junction between the waveguide portion and slab portion. A pair of contact portions are formed adjacent the respective slab portion and further away from the waveguide portion. A portion of each contact portion can also have a height varying with distance from the waveguide portion.

An optical modulator configured to reduce crosstalk between adjacent optical modulators includes a positive polarity signal electrode electrically coupled between a driver and an optical phase shifting section, and a negative polarity signal electrode electrically. The positive polarity signal electrode comprises a first positive polarity signal electrode section extending adjacent to a first optical waveguide path, and a second positive polarity signal electrode section extending adjacent to a second optical waveguide path. The negative polarity signal electrode comprises a first negative polarity signal electrode section extending adjacent to the second optical waveguide path and the first positive polarity signal electrode section, and a second negative polarity signal electrode section extending adjacent to the first optical waveguide path and the second positive polarity electrode section.

    摘要: An electro-optic device, such as an optical modulator, comprises: a driver for generating a plurality of identical time-synchronized copies of an input electrical signal, and a photonic integrated circuit, including an optical waveguide structure and a plurality of phase-modulating electro-optical modulator segments. Each one of the modulator segments configured to receive a respective one of the plurality of the copies of the input electrical signal. Instead of incorporating a required phase delay between the copies of the input electrical signal into the driver structure, a multi-layer interconnect substrate is provided that includes a plurality of insulating layers alternating with a plurality of conductive layers. The plurality of conductive layers are configured to include a plurality of delay lines, each one of the plurality of delay lines electrically coupled in between the driver and the photonic integrated circuit configured to transmit a respective one of the plurality of copies of the first input electrical signal.
