摘要: A method, apparatus, and computer program product for running software on an adapter. In response to a connection of a hardware interface for the adapter with a current host computer, a processor unit in the adapter determines whether a set of protocols for communicating with the current host computer to access resources is present on the adapter. In response to the set of protocols being absent on the adapter, the processor unit obtains the set of protocols from the current host computer. The processor unit identifies a set of available resources in the current host computer for use by the adapter using the set of protocols. The processor unit runs software stored on a set of storage devices in the adapter using the set of available resources identified for use by the adapter.

摘要: A semiconductor device controls an electrostatic actuator having first and second electrodes. A voltage generation unit generates different types of voltages applied to the first and second electrodes. A control unit controls voltages generated by the voltage generation unit to be applied to the first and second electrodes. A capacitance detection unit detects a voltage of the first or second electrode to detect a capacitance between the first and second electrodes. The control unit applies a first voltage between the first and second electrodes and then a second voltage smaller than the first voltage between the first and second electrodes. Thereafter, the control unit switches one of the first electrode or the second electrode to a high impedance state and then changes a voltage applied to the other. The capacitance detection unit detects the amount of change in voltage of the first or second electrode to detect a capacitance between the first and second electrodes.

摘要: A preventive maintenance tapping technique includes noting a tap position of a load tap changer and noting a duration that the tap position has been held. The duration that the tap position has been held is compared to a threshold value, and the tap position is changed if the tap position has been held for longer than the threshold value. Similarly, a duty cycle monitoring technique for monitoring life of load tap changer contacts includes detecting an arcing event. Arcing surfaces involved in the arcing event are identified and the effects of the arcing event on the arcing surfaces are calculated. Estimates of the erosion on the arcing surfaces are updated, and the estimates are compared to a threshold value. A signal for maintenance is generated when the estimate exceeds the threshold value.

摘要: An electromechanical switching device ensures automatic selected polarity interconnection between terminals of two power sources. A double pole double throw (DPDT) switch has three pairs of contacts. A first pair of leads connect to two pairs of contacts in a manner that reverses polarity when switched, while a second pair of leads connect to the other pair of contacts. A switch controller employs a plurality of coils in electrical communication with the two pairs of leads. The coils are arranged and configured so that, when the two pairs of leads are connected to the respective power sources, the coils cause an actuator to move the switch automatically into the correct polarity state regardless of the connections of the leads. The invention is described as a battery jumper cable and to automatically connect like terminals of a pair of batteries. The invention encompasses the method of this device.

摘要: A superconducting switching device having no moving components for reversing current flow through a load. This load typically is a superconducting magnet and, in this application, the present invention also selectively serves as a persistent switch. The invention includes a pair of switching units connected between the load (magnet) and a current source. These switching units each have a pair of superconductor members and a mechanism for selectively producing in the switching units either a substantial electrical resistance or no resistance. Through the use of a control logic, the level of resistance of the switching units can be changed to effect the direction of current flow. In the case of the superconductor magnet, both switch units can be simultaneously made to have substantially zero resistance, and their interconnection forms the persistent switch for the superconducting magnet.
