摘要: A data storage drive comprises a storage disk, a read/write head, and signal processing circuitry in signal communication with the read/write head. The read/write head is operative to read data from and write data to the storage disk at a plurality of data transfer rates. Moreover, the signal processing circuitry is powered by a variable power source. The variable power source varies supply voltage to the signal processing circuitry as a function of a current one of the data transfer rates of the read/write head. Power consumption is reduced in this manner.

摘要: The present invention is equipped with a plurality of low-cost middle-capacity hard disks that are combined together to realize a large capacity at the same level as a large-capacity hard disk, and performs power-saving management to minimize the power consumption by the hard disks. At the same time, the present invention eliminates delays for accessing the separate hard disks. For this purpose, the present invention puts any of a plurality of drive devices other than a current access-target drive into a power-saving state, and puts the next access-target drive into a stand-by state from the power-saving state during the access to the current access-target drive, by calculating a remaining time until completion of the access to the current access-target drive.

摘要: The present invention provides an information processing unit with improved operability. A reading section (10) reads information recorded in an optical disk, and outputs a read signal. A DSP (20) detects the read signal and processes to a reproducible form. A quick return button selects at least one of the processing details for starting or stopping the information processing and for changing a reproducing position of the information. When a reproducing state changing section (120) recognizes a change instruction for changing a processing state for the information, a reproduction control section (52) changes the processing state by the DSP 20 based on the processing details selected with the quick return button. Since the processing details for starting or stopping the information processing and for changing a reproducing position are previously stored in the reproducing state changing section (120) as commonly available change instructions, operating components can be simplified with the operability of the information reproducing unit (1) substantially improved.

摘要: An optical disk apparatus comprising a reproduced signal detector which digitizes a reproduced signal from an optical disk, a broadband synchronizing clock signal generator for generating a synchronizing clock signal for use in reproducing data, a signal processor for processing signals, and a disk rotation controller for controlling the optical disk by switching control modes according to the reproducing position of the disk, that is, performing CAV control using the constant rotating velocity which is the same as the current rotating velocity in a range where the synchronizing clock signal generator allows a reproduced signal to be subjected to pull-in-synchronization, and performing CLV control so that the linear velocity is constant to minimize the pull-in-enable changes of number of revolutions in a range exceeding the pull-in-synchronization range, by which arrangement the amount of change of number of spindle motor revolutions when the reproducing position of the optical pickup changes is minimized, thus further reducing power consumption and access time. The optical disk apparatus comprises a selector to switch over the control systems, and area dividing means to manage the divided areas, and while switching over CAV control and CLV control, records data, and varies the divided areas or the number of divided areas in CAV control according to recording capacities, so that lower power consumption and higher-speed access can be realized.

摘要: An SCP (System Control Processor) 7 is provided in addition to a CPU 1 responsible for control of circuits in a computer. Upon receiving a Main ON signal (low level) indicative of the CPU 1 being inactive, the SCP 7 responds to a switch operation on a control panel 6 to supply a CD-ROM drive 2 with a command corresponding to the switch operation on said control panel 6 independently of the CPU 1 as well as to feed a high-level CD-POWER-ON signal to a power supply circuit 8 through an OR circuit 9. The power supply circuit 8 selectively supplies the CD-ROM drive 2 and an Audio amplifier 10 with driving power upon receiving the high-level signal.
