Abstract:
Connecting member including a column-shaped driven section, a cylindrical connecting section for connecting with a screwing tap, a bit or a socket and a column-shaped body section connected between the driven section and the connecting section. The body section or the connecting section is formed with a weakened section as a stress concentration area when the connecting member is subject to a torque. The weakened section has a cross-sectional area smaller' than that of other parts of the connecting member. The connecting member is co-used with a screwing tap or a bit. In case of over-screwing, the weakened section is first broken so that the relatively expensive screwing tap or other tools or the parts driven by the tools are prevented from breaking or deforming.
Abstract:
A coaxial drive shaft system is provided with an overload shearable coupling for driving multiple outputs from a single input. A pair of coaxial, telescoped drive shafts are provided as independent outputs to a pair of driven devices. A singular input shaft is coupled to the drive shafts by a gearbox for simultaneously rotating the drive shafts. A shear section is formed in one of the drive shafts for rupturing the one drive shaft in response to an overload condition thereon, while the other coaxial, telescoped drive shaft continues to be rotated by the singular input shaft.
Abstract:
A pumping system has a main pumping unit (14) and a backup pumping unit (16) mounted in a common housing (4) and adapted to be driven by a drive member (44). The main pumping unit is connected to the drive member by a main drive coupling (68) which incorporates a reduced shear section (76) designed to fail upon a jamming or seizure of the main pumping unit. A backup drive coupling (78) connected to the backup pumping unit is adapted to be axially displaced and threadably connected to the drive member after stoppage of the main pumping unit. An actuation device (18) functions to axially displace the backup drive coupling to establish threaded engagement. When the backup drive coupling is engaged with the drive member, the backup pumping unit will provide flow.
Abstract:
An oil well sucker rod shear tool is described comprising a generally cylindrical elongated member having externally threaded portions at the opposite ends thereof. The elongated member has a reduced diameter portion formed therein between the ends thereof which serves as a shear portion designed to shear upon a predetermined amount of stress being subjected thereto. A cylindrical sleeve is sealably mounted on the elongated member around the shear portion not only to protect the shear portion from the corrosive effects of the fluid being pumped but to also prevent deflection of the shear portion. A cylindrical nut is threadably mounted on the elongated member to maintain the sleeve thereon.
Abstract:
An electric-motor system includes a forward electric-motor assembly, a rear electric-motor assembly arranged in series relative to the forward electric-motor assembly, a forward electric-motor driveshaft splined to the forward electric-motor assembly and comprising a forward electric-motor drive-shaft shear section, and a rear electric-motor driveshaft splined to the rear electric-motor assembly and comprising a rear electric-motor drive-shaft shear section, at least a portion of the rear electric-motor driveshaft arranged concentrically within the forward electric-motor driveshaft. The forward electric-motor driveshaft and the rear electric-motor drive-shaft rotate about a common axis.
Abstract:
An assembly including an accessory gearbox mechanically connected to an electricity generator having a support shaft that includes a calibrated breakable section designed to disconnect the electricity generator physically from the accessory gearbox when an incident is detected on the electricity generator, the protection device including an unlocking mechanism provided with a lock that, under the action of an external control unit, releases a cutting tool so as to cut said calibrated breakable section.
Abstract:
A tolerance ring comprising a body including a plurality of sidewall segments, each sidewall segment having a thickness and a height, wherein the body has an aspect ratio, as measured by a ratio of the height of the sidewall segment to the thickness of the sidewall segment, of no less than 2:1.
