The ladder assist is operationally configured to prevent falls during access and egress of a fixed ladder of a structure, e.g., a fixed ladder of a transportation container or a building.

A utility vehicle, in particular a firefighting vehicle, comprising an extendable aerial apparatus like a turnable ladder and/or an aerial rescue platform, a jacking system with lateral ground supports for jacking the vehicle body, and a stabilization mechanism for preventing tilting of the vehicle body in its jacked state. The stabilization mechanism includes a hydraulically operable rear axle blocking device for blocking the rear axle suspension of the vehicle. The stabilization mechanism further includes at least one hydraulically lockable shock absorber integrated into the front axle suspension of the vehicle. The rear axle blocking device and the hydraulically lockable shock absorber are controlled by a common hydraulic control to lock the hydraulically lockable shock absorber at the same time or with a delay after activating the rear axle blocking device.

A ladder safety device, systems and methods of arresting falls from ladders are provided. The ladder safety device includes a safety guide that extends along the length of an extension ladder. The length of the guide along the length of the ladder extends and contracts in unison with the extension and retraction of the extension ladder, and a tension is maintained on the guide to maintain a load during use of the ladder for climbing.

A retrofit handrail extension system or kit enables a large mining truck to be retrofitted in the field. The handrail extension system includes a first handrail extension member for connecting a first upper portion of a first ladder to a railing mounted to a catwalk around the cabin of the truck and a second handrail extension member for connecting a second upper portion of the first ladder to a forward-facing handrail mounted to an outer surface of the cabin of the truck. The system may include a third handrail extension member for connecting a first upper portion of a second ladder to a first platform railing mounted to a platform beside the cabin of the truck and a fourth handrail extension member for connecting a second upper portion of the second ladder to a second platform railing mounted to the platform beside the cabin of the truck.

A metal cover for a railcar sill step is disclosed for increased traction, safety, and durability. The metal sill step cover can be quickly and securely attached to a sill step. It has a textured metal traction surface for improving the safety of railroad car sill steps. The sill step cover includes top and front surfaces enhanced with rough metal texture so as to ensure traction when stepped on, and yet is more durable than grit-coated polyester anti-skid tape. Thus, a person is less likely to slip when using the metal step cover, which is especially important during wet or icy conditions. The step cover includes an extended clip portion for quickness and ease of attachment by bending outward so as to slide downward and then engage the rear portion of a sill step. The step cover is then secured to the sill step by screws or nuts and bolts.
