The present invention relates to an open-end spinning system and more particularly to a method and an apparatus for stopping and starting the spinning operation of the open-end spinning system in such a way that the end portion of the spun yarn of the previous spinning may be used as it is as the piecing-up end yarn for the following spinning operation. The apparatus of the present invention, includes means for positively braking the combing roller for concurrently and suddenly stopping the rotation of the combing roller and the feed roller and means for taking the end portion of the spun yarn out of the spinning rotor, maintaining the taken out portion in a deflected state with the end of the yarn disposed within a spinning tube, and releasing the yarn at the restart of the spinning operation so that said end portion may be injected into the spinning rotor.

This type of device has at least one spinning turbine, a yarn delivery opening, and a pair of delivery rollers opposite the opening. A yarn guide rod has guide elements and is located downstream of the delivery opening in the direction of yarn movement. The yarn guide rod is displaceable in a direction transverse to the axis between the opening and the delivery rollers. This rod defines a deflection device for diverting the yarn from the axis. A drive is provided for driving the yarn guide rod and is in interruptable connection therewith. The drive moves the guide rod back and forth and moves the guide rod to a further position for providing a yarn reserve.

Upon detecting and exceeding a maximum number of yarn defects within the produced yarn length or the time interval, a mechanical cleaning of the spinning rotor is carried out. Alternately, a certain minimum produced yarn length or a certain minimum time interval between two yarn defects is specified and the produced yarn length or time between detection of the yarn defects is recorded. Upon undershooting the minimum produced yarn length or minimum time interval between yarn defects, the mechanical cleaning of the spinning rotor is performed.

A method for operating a textile machine with several identical workstations which each have a basic requirement for negative pressure for regular production operation and an additional requirement for negative pressure following an interruption to production at the workstation, and with a vacuum system with limited suction force to exert the negative pressure on the workstations. A minimum negative pressure (pmin) is set and the number workstations simultaneously supplied with additional negative pressure is limited so that the minimum negative pressure (pmin) is always met. In accordance with the invention, a sub-negative pressure (psub) is specified which is below the minimum negative pressure (pmin) and, if a specified event occurs, the number of workstations simultaneously supplied with additional negative pressure is temporarily limited so that the sub-negative pressure (psub) is always met.
