Specifically, the charge transport method includes applying a voltage to a liquid crystalline compound in a smectic B liquid crystal phase, which liquid crystalline compound exhibits a smectic B phase as a liquid crystal phase, or applying a voltage to a liquid crystalline compound in a solid state formed as a result of phase transition from a smectic phase, which liquid crystalline compound exhibits the smectic phase as a liquid crystal phase.
