A method and an apparatus in a multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) wireless communication system are provided. A signal is received over a channel. The channel is decomposed into a plurality of virtual channels. Symbol detection is performed on each of the plurality of virtual channels using respective symbol detectors. At least one of the symbol detectors has a lower rank than that of the channel. Output from the symbol detectors is combined to obtain final log likelihood ration (LLR) values for layers of the channel. Decoding is performed using the final LLR values to output a decoded symbol value of the received signal.

A method and system for selecting precoding matrix index are herein disclosed. The method includes determining a precoder and candidate beams, selecting base beams based on a correlation power between the determined precoder and determined candidate beams, and estimating amplitude coefficients and cophase coefficients by projecting a channel on the selected base beams.

According to one embodiment, a method for blind detection of resources in an eMBB pre-empted by a URLLC includes receiving soft information including at least one code block, attempting to decode the at least one code block, and running URLLC blind detection on the at least one code block with the decoding attempt fails.

A system and method are provided in which an input including a measurement output of digital channel information is received. The digital channel information includes an estimated digital channel, a beamforming codebook, and quantized angle of arrival (AoA) values. A basis corresponding to one of the quantized AoA values is selected according to a largest projection power of the measurement output. A partial channel is recovered based on the beamforming codebook and the estimated digital channel. An analog channel is recovered based on the partial channel and the basis.
