    Abstract: A detection area 112 is set in a three-dimensional space in which a subject exists. When an actual hand enters the detection area 112, coordinate points (white and black dots) represented by pixels making up a silhouette 114 of the hand in a depth image enter the detection area 112. In the detection area 112, a reference vector 126 is set that shows the direction which the hand should face relative to the shoulder as a reference point 122. Then, an inner product between two vectors, a vector from the reference point 122 to each of coordinate points and the reference vector 126, is calculated, followed by comparison between the inner products. Positions of coordinate points whose inner products are ranked high are acquired as the position of tips of the hand.

    Abstract: A photographed image acquiring section 50 acquires data associated with a polarized image obtained through photographing of an object from an imaging apparatus 12, and stores the data in an image data storing section 52. A polarized image processing section 58 of a real space recognizing section 54 obtains distributions of degrees of polarization or normal vectors in an image plane by using the polarized image. A shadow area specifying section 60 specifies an area having peculiarity in the distribution of the degrees of polarization or the normal vectors in an image representing one surface of a subject as an area of a shadow. A state specifying section 62 acquires information associated with a state of a real object or the shadow in the real space on the basis of the area of the image of the shadow. An output data generating section 56 executes information processing by using state information in the real space, and outputs a processing result.

    Abstract: During a period when a user's dominant eye is the right eye, an image generating device (200) generates an image for the right eye (272) at a standard resolution and generates a display image for the left eye (270) at a lower resolution. During a period when the dominant eye is the left eye, the image generating device (200) generates an image for the left eye (278) at the standard resolution and generates a display image for the right eye (280) at a lower resolution. In a head mounted display (100), the images with the lower resolution are enlarged into display images (274) and (276), and the image for the left eye and the image for the right eye are displayed.

    Abstract: A captured image acquisition section 50 acquires, from an imaging apparatus 12, data of a polarized image obtained by capturing a target object and stores the data into an image data storage section 52. A region extraction section 60 of a target object recognition section 54 extracts a region in which a figure of the target object is included in the polarized image. A normal line distribution acquisition section 62 acquires a distribution of normal line vectors on a target object surface in regard to the extracted region. A model adjustment section 66 adjusts a three-dimensional model of the target object stored in a model data storage section 64 in a virtual three-dimensional space such that the three-dimensional model conforms to the distribution of the normal line vectors acquired from the polarized image to specify a state of the target object.

    Abstract: An image generating apparatus 10 acquires information associated with a motion of a head of a user wearing a head-mounted display 100. For a period of time for which the head is stopped, the image generating apparatus 10 generates a display image 70 with a standard resolution, and transmits the display image 70 to the head-mounted display 100, so that display images 71 having the same resolution are displayed. For a period of time for which the head is moved, the image generating apparatus 10 generates display images 72 each having the reduced resolution, and the head-mounted display 100 generates display images 73 obtained by enlarging the display images 72.
