Abstract:
Wireless communications systems and methods related to providing an indication that a user equipment (UE) is within coverage by a particular network are provided. An example method of wireless communications obtaining, by a first wireless communication device from a second device associated with a second network, information regarding whether the first wireless communication device is within coverage by a first network. The first wireless communication device supports dual connectivity with the first network and the second network. The method also includes determining, based at least in part on the information, whether to display an icon indicating that the first wireless communication device is connected to the first network. The method further includes in response to a determination to display the icon, displaying, by the first wireless communication device, the icon on a display coupled to the first wireless communication device.
Abstract:
Certain aspects of the present disclosure provide a method for confirming identity of a user equipment (UE) registered in both a wireless local area network (WLAN) and WWAN. A method is provided for wireless communications by a base station (BS). The method generally includes establishing communications with a first UE, wherein the UE is identified by a first set of one or more identifiers in a wide area wireless network (WWAN) and by a second set of one or more identifiers in a wide local area network (WLAN), and determining, based on the first and second set of identifiers, a UE connected to the WWAN and WLAN is the first UE.
Abstract:
Network entities in a wireless network cooperate to account and charge for data communicated over the wireless network. Accounting and charging enable the network entities to properly allocate charges to a second user equipment that communicates through a first user equipment, which acts as a relay in the wireless network. A network entity receives a request from the first user equipment related to a packet data network connection relating to the second user equipment. The network entity establishes or modifies a connection between a gateway and the first user equipment in response to the request. Charges for the data may be allocated to the second user equipment for data communicated with the identifier of the second user equipment.
Abstract:
A multi-mode access point supports different radio access technologies (e.g., Wi-Fi and cellular) for serving multi-mode access terminals. To provide improved service for such an access terminal, the access point may redirect the access terminal from a first type of radio access technology to a second type of radio access technology under certain circumstances. A decision to invoke such a redirection may be based on, for example, at least one of: traffic conditions on the first type of radio access technology, traffic conditions on the second type of radio access technology, and whether a backhaul for the access point is currently a bottleneck for access point communication.
Abstract:
Certain aspects of the present disclosure relate to communicating with one or more wireless networks using multiple radio access technologies (RATs). A device can communicate with a first access point using a first RAT over a first connection to access a first wireless network, and communicate with a second access point using a second RAT over a second connection, wherein the second connection is configured to implement traffic aggregation with the first connection based at least in part on a configuration received from the first access point. The device can also manage the second connection based at least in part the implementation of the traffic aggregation with the first connection.
Abstract:
Techniques for aggregating heterogeneous carriers in a wireless communication system are disclosed. A mobile device may receive a configuration for aggregating a plurality of component carriers including one or more cellular carriers and a wireless local area network (WLAN) carrier. The one or more cellular carriers may include LTE carriers, and aggregation may be performed at a sub-IP protocol layer of operation. In one aspect, protocol entities may be modified to perform quality of service determinations, carrier selection, traffic mapping, or the like, in view of the different capabilities and characteristics of the heterogeneous carriers in the carrier aggregation configuration.
Abstract:
Methods and apparatus for wireless communication in a mobile device that includes relinquishing a client side high level operation system (HLOS) internet protocol (IP) context of a user equipment (UE), when the UE, connected to a network via a Wireless Wide Area Network (WWAN) connection, is transported to a Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN) connection area. Aspects of the methods and apparatus include maintaining a Packet Data Protocol (PDP) context of the UE, when the UE, connected to the network via the WWAN connection, is transported to a WLAN connection area. Aspects of the methods and apparatus include setting a linger timer for a certain period of time to defer deactivation of the PDP context and deactivating the PDP context when the linger timer expires.
Abstract:
Certain aspects of the present disclosure generally relate to wireless communications and, more particularly, to methods and apparatus for utilizing a control protocol to establish multiple packet data network (PDN) connections through a trusted wide area network (TWAN). Techniques are provided for expanding mobile network capacity by offloading traffic from wireless wide area networks (WWAN) to other types of networks, including wireless local area networks (WLAN).
Abstract:
Systems and methodologies are described that facilitate Mobile IP home agent (HA) discovery in a wireless communication system. Discovery of a HA for Mobile IP can be conducted as described herein for a mobile terminal located on a network wherein movement of the terminal is managed by a network-based mobility protocol. For example, various aspects described herein can be utilized for discovery of a HA located in a 3GPP network from 3GPP and/or non-3GPP access. Further, various aspects described herein can be utilized to discover a gateway acting as mobility anchor for a network mobility protocol utilized by the network. As additionally described herein, HA discovery can be conducted in connection with DNS query formation and communication, network attach and/or re-attach procedures, Neighbor Discovery signaling, and/or other procedures.
