Abstract: A method for transmitting a resource request for an uplink (UL) multi-user (MU) transmission is described. A High Throughput (HT) Control field that includes buffer information corresponding to media access control (MAC) protocol data units (MPDUs) that are queued for transmission by a first communication device is generated by the first communication device. The buffer information indicates a number of bytes for the MPDUs that are queued for transmission. A resource request MPDU that includes the HT Control field is generated by the first communication device. The resource request MPDU is transmitted by the first communication device to a second communication device via a wireless communication channel to request an allocation of radio resources for the UL MU transmission by the second communication device.

Abstract: Some embodiments described herein provide a method for transmitting a preamble in accordance with a wireless local area network communication protocol. In some embodiments, a data frame may be obtained for transmission including a preamble compliant with the wireless local area network communication protocol. It may be determined that the preamble includes a first preamble portion that spans multiple symbol durations and a second preamble portion that spans a single symbol duration. The first preamble portion via beamforming may be transmitted based on a first beamforming matrix. When a transmission mode of the second preamble portion is beamforming, a second beamforming matrix may be generated based on the first beamforming matrix, each tone for the second preamble portion may be calculated based on the second beamforming matrix. Each calculated tone may be transmitted in accordance with the wireless local area network communication protocol.

Abstract: A communication device determines, in connection with a prior uplink multi-user (UL MU) communication in which the communication device participated, whether the communication device is to use one or more first channel access parameters, or one or more second channel access parameters for accessing a communication medium for a single user (SU) transmission by the communication device, where using the one or more first channel access parameters is associated with a greater probability of obtaining access to the communication medium as compared to using the one or more second channel access parameters. Depending on the determination made, the communication device uses the one or more first channel access parameters, or the one or more second channel access parameters to attempt to access the communication medium. In response to accessing the communication medium, the communication device transmits the SU transmission via the communication medium.

Abstract: The present disclosure includes systems and techniques relating to broadcast and multicast in a wireless communication system. In some implementations, an announcement frame indicating a broadcast or multicast service period to multiple second wireless devices is transmitted by a first wireless device. The announcement frame indicates (i) an end time of the broadcast or multicast service period and (ii) an order of a sequence of frames to be directed to the multiple second wireless devices. Each of the sequence of frames is transmitted at the first wireless device using a directional antenna pattern to a respective one of the multiple second wireless devices, according to the order of the sequence of frames indicated in the announcement frame. An acknowledgement frame in response to the each of the sequence of frames is received at the first wireless device from the respective one of the multiple second wireless devices.

Abstract: An access point generates a trigger frame to trigger an uplink multi-user (MU) transmission by multiple client stations. The access point generates the trigger frame to include a common information field and multiple per-station information fields. The access point generates the common information field to include (i) a subfield that indicates a bandwidth of the uplink MU transmission, and (ii) information that indicates a guard interval and a long training field (LTF) mode to be used by the multiple client stations for the uplink MU transmission, and generates each per-station field to include respective frequency allocation information that indicates respective frequency resources to be used by the respective client station for the uplink MU transmission. The access point transmits the trigger frame to the multiple client stations to trigger the uplink MU transmission by the multiple client stations.

Abstract: In generating a physical layer (PHY) data unit is for transmission in a shared communication medium during a transmit opportunity (TXOP), a wireless communication device generates a TXOP field to indicate a length of time remaining in the TXOP. The wireless communication device generates a physical layer (PHY) preamble of the PHY data unit to include a legacy signal field in a legacy portion of the PHY preamble and a non-legacy signal field in a non-legacy portion of the PHY preamble, the non-legacy signal field generated to include the TXOP field. The wireless communication device generates the PHY data unit to include the PHY preamble and a data portion, and transmits the PHY data unit in the shared communication medium.

Abstract: An access point receives a first uplink orthogonal frequency division multiple access (OFDMA) transmission from a plurality of client stations. The first uplink OFDMA transmission includes i) respective acknowledgment frames for the downlink OFDMA PHY data unit, and ii) respective frames that include indications of respective amounts of buffered data at the respective client stations that are to be transmitted to the access point. The access point uses the received indications of respective amounts of buffered data at the respective client stations to determine an allocation of frequency resources for a second uplink OFDMA transmission, and transmits a second downlink OFDMA PHY data unit to the plurality of client stations, which i) indicates the allocation of frequency resources to the plurality of client stations for the second uplink OFDMA transmission, and ii) is configured to prompt the plurality of client stations to begin transmitting the second uplink OFDMA transmission.
