The present invention is directed to a process for the preparation of a stable, liquid adduct comprising reacting a mixture of 1,3-butane diol and neopentyl glycol with diphenylmethane diisocyanate at a temperature of from about 25.degree. C. to about 120.degree. C. in an amount such that said adduct has an isocyanate group content of from about 20 to about 30 percent by weight, and wherein the ratio of mole equivalents of 1,3-butane diol to mole equivalents of neopentyl glycol is from 0.05:0.95 to 0.95:0.05, with the further proviso that(i) if the 4,4'-isomer content of the diphenylmethane diisocyanate is equal to or greater than 98 percent by weight, then said ratio is from 0.30:0.70 to 0.65:0.35,(ii) if the 4,4'-isomer content of the diphenylmethane diisocyanate is less than 98 percent by weight but not less than 90 percent by weight, then said ratio is from 0.30:0.70 to 0.75:0.25,(iii) if the 4,4'-isomer content of the diphenylmethane diisocyanate is less than 90 percent by weight but not less than 80 percent by weight, then said ratio is from 0.30:0.70 to 0.85:0.15 and(iv) if the 4,4'-isomer content of the diphenylmethane diisocyanate is less than 80 percent by weight but not less than 65 percent by weight, then said ratio is from 0.30:0.70 to 0.95:0.05.The invention is also directed to a product produced from such process.

The present invention is directed to a process for the production of optionally cellular, polyurethane elastomer molding by reacting a reaction mixture containing(I) a polyisocyanate,(II) an isocyanate-reactive polymer having a molecular weight of about 1800 to 12,000,(III) about 5 to 50% by weight, based on the weight of component (II) of a chain extender comprising a sterically hindered aromatic diamine and(IV) an internal mold release agent mixture comprising(a) about 0.5 to 10% by weight, based on the weight of components (II) and (III) of a zinc carboxylate containing 8 to 24 carbon atoms per carboxylate group and(b) a compatibilizer comprising a member selected from the group consisting of nitrogen-containing, isocyanate-reactive, acyclic compounds and nitrogen-containing, isocyanate-reactive polymers in an amount sufficient to solubilize the zinc carboxylate so that when the internal mold release agent mixture is in admixture with components (II) and (III), the zinc carboxylate possesses improved resistance to precipitation,the reaction mixture being processed as a one-shot system by the RIM process at an isocyanate index of about 70 to 130.

The invention consists of a composition containing a chemically blocked trimerization catalyst and a polyurethane prepolymer resin or resins with reactive isocyanate groups. In the absence of heat, the catalyst is not active and the solution of catalyst in the resin undergoes no appreciable reaction for periods ranging from hours to weeks depending upon the composition and concentration of the catalysts and the structure and concentration of the isocyanate groups. When heat is applied to the mixture a trimerization reaction occurs which produces a crosslinked polyurethane network with utility as an elastomer or as an adhesive.
