Abstract: The present invention is an above-critical coating composition comprising an aqueous dispersion of polymer particles, pigment particles, and extender particles wherein the polymer particles comprise from 80 to 99.8 weight percent structural units of vinyl acetate and from 0.1 to 6 weight percent structural units of a phosphorus acid monomer. The composition shows surprisingly improved hiding with increased particle size of the polymer particles.

Abstract: A novel coating composition comprising, by dry weight based on total dry weight of the coating composition, i) from 20% to 45% of emulsion copolymer being a copolymerization product of a monomer mixture comprising, by dry weight based on the total dry weight of the emulsion copolymer, from 30% to 80%, of ethyl acrylate; from 20% to 70%, of a vinyl monomer; and from 1% to 4%, of an ethylenically unsaturated carboxylic acid containing monomer; ii) from 0.5% to 5% of a paraffin wax; iii) from 30% to 55% of a pigment; and iv) from 0.003% to 0.5% of lithium hydroxide.

Abstract: The present invention provides an aqueous composition for coating substrates comprising: one or more emulsion copolymer, the emulsion copolymer being a copolymerization product of a monomer mixture comprising a monomer of formula I, wherein R1 is hydrogen or methyl, X is a divalent organic alkylene oxide group, n is an integer ranging from 1 to 50 and R2 is hydrogen or an alphatic or aromatic hydrocarbon group having from 1 to 20 carbon atoms, and a phosphate surfactant. When incoroporated into a coating composition, the coating composition show both improved stain-resistance properties and anti-clogging properties.
