    Abstract: A system includes a communication module configured to establish a first secure communications link with a portable device and a second secure communications link with a contactless smartcard. The contactless smartcard includes a unique identification (ID). A memory module configured to store information associated with the portable device and the contactless smartcard. A temporary key module configured to store the ID of the contactless smartcard and vehicle operation limitations associated with the ID of the contactless smartcard in the memory module. An authentication module configured to (i) authenticate the portable device and (ii) authenticate the contactless smartcard. A passive entry/passive start (PEPS) module configured to receive authentication of at least (i) the portable device or (ii) the contactless smartcard from the authentication module, and perform a vehicle operation based on at least (i) the received authentication and (ii) the vehicle operation limitations stored in the memory module.

    Abstract: Systems and methods are disclosed and include a processor configured to execute instructions stored in a nontransitory computer-readable medium. The instructions include generating first message authentication code (MAC) bytes based on a shared secret key. The instructions include generating first nonce bytes and an authenticated packet based on the first MAC bytes, the first nonce bytes, and a message byte. The instructions include generating a de-whitened tone byte based on the shared secret key. The instructions include generating a message packet that includes the authenticated packet and the de-whitened tone byte. Generating the message packet includes pseudo-randomly identifying a first location of the authenticated packet and inserting the de-whitened tone byte at the first location. The instructions include transmitting the message packet to the peripheral device and establishing the communication link between a portable device and a peripheral device in response to the peripheral device validating the message packet.

    Abstract: Systems and methods for localization and passive entry/passive start (PEPS) systems for vehicles are provided. A communication gateway in a vehicle establishes a Bluetooth low energy (BLE) communication connection with a portable device. Sensors are configured to receive connection information about the BLE communication connection from the communication gateway, eavesdrop on the BLE communication connection, and measure signal information about communication signals sent from the portable device to the communication gateway. A localization module is configured to determine a location of the portable device based on the signal information from the plurality of sensors. A PEPS system is configured to receive the location of the portable device from the localization module and to perform a vehicle function including at least one of unlocking a door of the vehicle, unlocking a trunk of the vehicle, and allowing the vehicle to be started based on the location of the portable device.

    Abstract: Systems and methods for vehicle passive entry/passive start (PEPS) are provided. A communication gateway establishes a Bluetooth low energy communication connection with a portable device. A localization module determines a portable device location based on two-way ranging using impulse radio ultra-side band. The PEPS system performs vehicle functions, such as unlocking a door or trunk, allowing the vehicle to be started, or activating wireless charging, based on the portable device location. Another system includes at least one low frequency (LF) antenna configured to transmit a wireless charging ping signal within a predetermined range to a portable device configured for wireless charging. A communication gateway authenticates the portable device based on a response to the ping signal by the portable device. A PEPS performs vehicle functions, such as unlocking a door or trunk, or allowing the vehicle to be started, in response to authenticating the portable device.

    Abstract: Systems and methods are provided and include a communication gateway of a control module. The communication gateway establishes wireless communication connections with a plurality of user devices. A plurality of sensors are configured to, in response to the plurality of user devices being connected to the communication gateway, communicate signal information about the wireless communication connections to the control module. The signal information indicates characteristics of the wireless communication connections. The control module (i) determines a location of each user device of the plurality of user devices based on the signal information and (ii) generates a plurality of entries based on the signal information. Each entry of the plurality of entries corresponds to each of the plurality of user devices. A user settings activation module (i) determines user profiles corresponding to each entry of the plurality of entries and (ii) activates at least one vehicle function based on the user profiles.

    Abstract: Systems and methods are disclosed and include receiving, with a peripheral device, a message packet from a portable device, the message packet including an authenticated packet with a de-whitened tone byte inserted therein. The portable device generates first message authentication code (MAC) bytes based on a shared secret key and generates the authenticated packet based on the first MAC bytes, first nonce bytes, and a message byte. The peripheral device validates the message packet in response to determining that the first MAC bytes match second MAC bytes and that the first nonce bytes match second nonce bytes. The peripheral device generates a reconstructed message packet in response to validating the message packet by removing the de-whitened tone byte from the authenticated packet. The communication gateway establishes a communication link between the portable device and the communication gateway in response to receiving the reconstructed message packet.
