    Abstract: Some embodiments provide a method for a document viewing application. While displaying a sequence of selectable items that each correspond to a different document in a sequence of documents, the method receives selection of an item corresponding to a particular document in the sequence. The method retrieves a first set of content for displaying at least a portion of the particular document. After the first set of content is retrieved and displayed, the method retrieves content for displaying documents surrounding the particular document in the sequence of documents such that the content is available if input is received to display one of the documents surrounding the particular document in the sequence.

    Abstract: The present technology provides a less burdensome mechanism to bring media items owned or licensed in the physical world into an account hosted by an electronic media provider. A specific use case deals with magazine subscriptions wherein the electronic media provider can send entity identifying information to a publisher clearinghouse that has subscription data for many different magazines. If the entity information sufficiently matches subscription information, the clearinghouse sends back data identifying magazines for which the entity is entitled to a digital copy, and these magazines become available to the user through the electronic media provider.

    Abstract: Some embodiments provide a content processing application with a novel annotation migration operation that allows the application to automatically migrate annotations from a first version of content such as a document to a second version of the content. Examples of such annotations include user-specified notes, highlights, bookmarks, and/or other annotations. The content processing application examines different sets of content segments in the second version to identify a particular set of content segments that matches a first set of content segments in the first version associated with a particular annotation. Upon identifying a matching particular set of content segments, the content processing application associates the particular annotation with the particular set of content segments in the second version. The content processing application can then provide a presentation of the second version with the particular annotation for the matching particular set of content segments.

    Abstract: Some embodiments described herein provide a content publishing tool that includes a versioning tool for specifying whether a document is a new document or an updated version of a document that has been published with the content distribution system. The versioning tool of some embodiments includes a field to input version information, such as version number, issue number, and edition information. In some embodiments, the versioning tool identifies documents that the user previously published with a content distribution system, and presents the documents in a list.     Abstract: Some embodiments of the invention provide a method that detects document attribute preferences for viewing documents (e.g., articles) on a device. The method displays several documents on a display screen of the device, with each document having one or more associated attributes. In some embodiments, different documents can be associated with the same attribute or the same number of attributes, or can be associated with different attributes or a different number of attributes. In some embodiments, the method detects viewer interactions with one or more displayed documents, and based on these interactions, computes attribute scores for several attributes associated with a number of the documents. The computed attribute scores in some embodiments identify a preference ranking for attributes associated with the documents. As further describe below, some embodiments use the computed attribute scores to select subsequent documents for display on the device and/or to arrange the display of subsequent documents on the device.
